A decent improvement, reflective of a healthier athletic dept. For comparison purposes, the MWC rankings (including Boise St.) were as follows: #35--BYU #40--TCU #47--New Mexico #60--Boise St. #66--SDSU #75--Utah #86--UNLV #95--AFA #123--CSU #163--Wyo. The Fred Noonan School of Navigation.

66 out of 278 schools....not too shabby. Room for improvement though.

I'd trade every one of SDSU's wins in Olympic sports for a football team as good as TCU has.

I'd trade every one of SDSU's wins in Olympic sports for a football team as good as TCU has. Perhaps, but I doubt that the kids who won would. ;D Although I would really love a great football team I greatly admire Stanford's athletic program. It has won this cup several times and that is reflective of a committment to all of their students to provide a healthy environment in which athletics will thrive. For men and women both and not just for the minor league professional sports. Admiring Stanford by a Cal grad is a tough call, but I also note that my Golden Bears are number 9 in the standings reflecting across the board student athlete excellence. I think the cup illustrates the importance of athletics over all. Not just the name brand stuff. I am proud of SDSU's progress in this area and pleased to see that the drop in football revenues and funding for the Olympic sports has not resulted in the same kind of downward spiral as our football team. Quality opportunity for all to compete is an excellent goal and the fact that SDSU is getting better at meeting it is most encouraging. Keep up the good work! The Fred Noonan School of Navigation.

Fred, Olympic sports bring in zero dollars and whereas Stanford has an endowment bigger than God's, SDSU needs every penny it can get in order to keep its athletic programs alive.

Seeing Boise St. in #60, I suppose this extinguishes the impression that they’re a one trick pony with their football program.

SDSU is throwing money at athletics and has done so the bast half dozen years or so, this is the leading indicator: that we are competitive as a program.
And to SGF above - i'm not so sure we're going to be a sweet 16 team before we have a conf. championship football team - if it doesn't happen this year, I think it is much more likely the football team runs through the MWC before the bball team gets to the sweet 16.

I agree it's a false perception which appears to be based mainly on them having a weak men's basketball team and no baseball program. I've also read a few times on MWC Board that Boise St. have won the title for having the most sports teams place first in the WAC for several years now. Their football program is what will help our league get the AQ status so they can focus on that team for all I care. With SDSU, UNLV, New Mexico and YBU having solid basketball programs, these four schools can pretty much carry the rest of the league on their shoulders.
