Well, right now it is accused, and it seems to be a he said/she said situation. Earlier post had it right, lets see what happens when the dust settles. I imagine a pro-bono lawyer will show up at the hearing tomorrow, maybe the same guy that defended OJ. Look-out Willis, he didn't do too well for The Juice.

I'd like opinions on a question that arises from this thread. Do you think it belongs here or in the MWC/other college sports section? My initial response is to prefer the latter.

Sure its not directly Aztec related, but it sure impacts Aztec basketball. And frankly I rarely look in the MWC section.

I feel that topics like this with a player perhaps being discharged from the team has a direct impact on the Aztecs, specifically a team like UNLV and a player like willis that would go a long way towards the Aztecs' season. In short: big topics and events in the conference particularly with fellow perpetual regular season and tournament contenders/favorites seems best suited here.

Felony domestic battery by strangulation sounds a little worse than taking a cell phone or a TV. "Battery by strangulation" are words that don't convey at all the degree of what may have happened. Those words can be used to convey something that was just short of attempted murder to something that was merely holding someone by the throat. And they are words that may not be true. We have to wait and let the process precede. I wonder if the coercion was an attempt to convince her not call his "real" girlfriend about his being there at 3AM. Taking the cell phone would be in line with that desired result.

3 freshman recruits from the UCLA Football team were suspended from playing this fall for felony theft-all rated in the top 50 at their position All 3 were kicked off the team for stealing a purse ... not just suspended. sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/ncf/news/story?id=5340069I just don't understand why some athletes risk throwing everything away for the stupidest reasons ... speaking of which: michael vick just happens to be at a party, associating with other felons, where someone happens to get shot? cedric benson gets into a fight with people in a bar and then punches a bouncer in the face?

Whether dismissal or just suspension, nobody who has had felony charges brought against them should be allowed to remain on a college football team. I once had great respect for Bobby Bowden but how many Peter Warrick situations did he allow to go by before finally deciding to suspend anybody for possible felonies? Why the NCAA doesn't require that is beyond me. Strike that. The NCAA has become a eunuch, at least with regard to the big boys of the sport. Good on Neuheisel for acting quickly and decisively. (The wannabe criminal defense lawyers out there are free to disagree.)

I bet he doesn't play this season unless the D.A. decides not to charge him. This is a serious crime and he won't just get slap on the wrist.

I didn't realize UNLV was also ranked in the top 25 by some preaseason polls?

There were some UNLV posters who continually talked about TVs and drug tests, two years ago. They are now learning why they can see through their walls.

I think this thread should stay on the Aztecs board, not the MWC. Its close enough to having an impact and I as well never look at the MWC board - only this one.
I'm glad we have a coach who the players KNOW will take action and dismiss them or suspend them if they blow team rules or do stupid stuff like this. Keeps our program clean and accountable.

The Clark County District Attorney's Office has officially filed a felony charge of battery/domestic violence-strangulation against Willis. The additional charge of grand larceny (cell phone thievery) was not filed. Unless the female drops the charges ... it looks like he will not only miss the season, but he might do a few weeks in jail. Coach Kruger has indicated that any decisions will be made after Willis' legal status is settled. Court date Aug 3. www.lvrj.com/sports/da-s-office-files-one-felony-charge-against-willis-97921419.html

I can't believe the reporter referenced their facebook accounts as sources of information. Lame high school reporting. Next he will reference twitter for Trevones prison deflowering.
