the company I work for does branding for companies and the first and best lesson is the KISS principle- would guess we would want the key elements /fonts be as easy to read and as you can. The S and D interlocked as you have now in Black and Red, and have SAN DIEGO above or inside in White and STATE - below on inside bottom in White- Our colors are Red,(not sure what the pantone number for AZTEC red ,but it should be constant) Black, and some white -as accent- when you silk screen or print you can do fine detail but embroidered or tackle twill you need thick and distinct- Mascots are nice but when you show it quickly on TV it should be distinct- prefer seeing the San Diego and State so I can read it rather than the spear- and that we are not South Dakota State

I have a polo shirt with that "A-spear" logo and was wearing it in Detroit last summer and some guy actually said to me "Go Indians!". I asked what he meant and, pointing to my shirt said, "Isn't that Arkansas State?" I laughed and said, "No, it's for the San Diego State Aztecs." He looked confused and walked on. Needless to say I don't wear that shirt anymore. Your example is one of the reasons why I never bought an SDSU gear with the A-spear logo. For a school like ours that's struggling to compete against more recognizable college logos, the A-spear logo itself (IMO) was an epic failure. If you're a non-Aztec fan, simply seeing the A-spear logo doesn't tell you whether it's a school, rock band or just a random design. The nation is more familiar with our school name (San Diego St.) and school initials (SDSU) than our mascot (Aztecs), hence why the A-spear doesn't make sense.

[/quote] I've been meaning to ask this question for a long time now. Does anyone know the reason why the first five rows from this photo was changed to our current seating style?

I'm going to have to disagree with you that the AZTEC "mascot" doesn't identify the school as much as SDSU does. I have a t-shirt with the below logo and almost everyone I meet knows it represents San Diego State. AZTECS is perhaps the most unique college mascot in the country.

One more time.....AZTECS is NOT our mascot. The AZTEC WARRIOR/MONTY is our one and only mascot. AZTECS is our NICKNAME.

I have had numerrous favorable comments here in Buckeye country how cool our logo is. If we can't have Monty then SD is good enough for me.
