Drew Cumberland has been chosen to play for team USA and Simon Castro for the world. I think, I read somewhere that we had 18 minor league All-Stars this year. This is a huge improvement over a few years ago. Our minor league system is really on the rise.

Futures game and minor league all star game are two totally different things, btw Cumberland got promoted to SA Cumberland's final "A+" stats: .365 .404 .542 .946 Last night in his first game at "AA" he was 2 for 4. Scout.com has him as a 5 star prospect. They reappraised him as the Padres #2 prospect behind Simon Castro #1. They also have him as #2 SS in the minors behind the Dodgers Dee Gordon.

Not to be a naysayer, but I hope he fixed his throw, because that was the ugliest motion from short to first I've seen lately.
Guess it wouldn't matter if he played with A-Gon, though.

It was never his range or his arm strength so they feel it is something they can FIX. That is partly why his rating has soared.

That is partly why his rating has soared. he still doesn't cut it defensively and actually its his arm which is the worry he struggles to control his throws accuracy and throws it high a lot. He has 17 errors already on the season he or Forsythe will be up next year at some time playing second

The Padres still see him as a SS.

Cumberland was highly rated coming out of HS. He's had some injuries to overcome. I've read reports from analysts quoting Padres minor league officials of Cumberland's throwing issues being overcome and keeping him at SS.
If this kid reaches his potential and the numbers this year are his true calling then we have something special.
I'm not comparing him to Jeter by any means, but, Jeter started off his career in the Sally league with 56 errors. Cumberland has a chance to develop into a might fine player. His time at AA San Antonio will be a tough test, lets see what he's made of.

...His time at AA San Antonio will be a tough test, lets see what he's made of. It certainly will be a tough test. He is 21 yr 5 mo, which is quite young for that level. Thinking that he is ready for that says a lot about how the Padres feel about him. Let's hope the Padres are right.
Interesting note: We drafted Drew with a pick we got for letting Dave Roberts become a free agent. We also drafted pitcher Corey Kluber from the Dave Roberts exit. Corey Kluber stats from "AA" are shown below: 14 starts 3.40 ERA 82 Innings 91 Strike outs 27 Walks Dave Roberts the year after the Padres declined in every measurement. The year following that he was pretty worthless but was being paid well. Signing him turned out to be a Giant error. The Padres made a good decision to let him walk.

Kluber is not a prospect

Kluber just turned 24 so he is a little old for "AA". But has really improved this year in every category over last year in "AA". Some players take a little longer and pitchers don't have to have unbelievable "stuff" to make it. He is a prospect, unless you have some secret meaning for that word. Luebke had worse numbers at "AA" last year when he was the age Kluber is this year. And you just wrote you want Luebke starting for the Padres. Luebke at 24 "AA" 3.70 Kluber at 24 "AA" 3.40 And Kluber has a better BB/K ratio and WHIP.
