The top U.S. military commander in Afghanistan is in hot water for saying some uncomplimentary things about the Obama administration. The Prez is reported to be very upset about this. Will the Gen be removed? Who knows? I will say this. If Obama sacks McChrystal, he (Obama) will pay a price. This reminds me of the 1951 firing of Gen. MacArthur, then United Nations commander in Korea, by Pres. Truman. Truman felt that MacArthur had been guilty of insubordination. One can certainly make the case that Mac was guilty as charged. On the other hand, there were no doubt millions of Americans who had more faith in the General than in the President. (I suspect that this incident did a lot to make Truman very unpopular by the time his second term had ended. Look up this incident on Wikipedia for background information.) Back to the present. Obama's one area of general popular support is his handling of the Afghanistan war. Were he to sack a commander virtually everyone thinks is the man for the job, he would be savaged by critics. (Maybe we should try to substantiate or disprove McChrystal's remarks. If the General's statements are accurate, perhaps it's Obama who is to blame here.) today.msnbc.msn.com/id/37839756/ns/us_news-military/AzWm
