Now this is funny! From the piece, "The City, as they call it, has adopted the lead on everything from getting rid of plastic bags and Happy Meals is now considering a ban on circumcision."

You keep hoping that SF will break out laughing and say: "You silly dope! Did you really think we were seriouis? Got you that time." But no, they really DO mean it! AzWm

Kotkin is a total ideologue and not worth bothering with. He lives in Orange County and prays that someday the Inland Empire will out number the coastal cities that all now have Democratic majorities. He hates urban areas, he hates transit of any sort and he really hates anyone to the left of Attila The Hun. And in case you want to know why I have this opinion of him, it's because an idiot aerospace engineer constantly posts his crap on a planning list serve I subscribe to. This is operative: The Census shows that the Bay Area and Los Angeles are growing at their slowest rate in over 160 years under American rule. Between 2000 and 2010 Los Angeles gained less population than in any decade since the 1890s. Its growth rate was slower than metropolitan Chicago, St. Louis and virtually every region that has reported to date, with the exception of New Orleans.
This reflects not only the poor economy of the past few years, but also a widely cited drop-off in foreign immigration and continued massive outmigration of residents to other states. One reason for this mass exodus may be soaring house prices — largely the product of strong regulatory restraints — which appear to have contributed to slowing population growth after 2003.Well DUH - the coastal cities are built out while the Inland Empire has become an abomination of land rape that eventually lead to people who bitch about taxes instead bitching about pot holes and the lack of public services once it is built out. Will, you don't understand the complexities of land use planning - to the extent, I would imagine that you've rarely, if ever, attended a Fallbrook planning group meeting. If you really want to understand it, run for office on the planning group and learn something instead of relying upon fools like Kotkin telling you what you should think. Take my word for it - Kotkin does not have your best interests at heart. =Bob

The troll excuse is getting old.
