This is a great country! We all can express our opinions on just about any subject. The fact that WI does not have the money to pay for all that former Governors and legislators set up should resonate with most folks. If you have to cut, where would you start? I guess you could go the Michael Moore route and confiscate wealth to pay for the union obligations.

In times like these, we just have to learn to do more with less. Wisconsin, Florida, California..... We all have to economize. Some have more emotional turmoil over it than others.

With the veiled name calling, red-herring arguments, missing cause and effect relationships and the absence of real solutions, I can really appreciate how elegant this article really is! When I read "Like the temperance movement of the last century, the tea party draws heavy support from Protestant evangelicals such as Walker himself" I knew we had a winner. When you can poke fun at your opponent's religion and their fiscal policies at the same time....its a twofer!

The analogy with prohibition is ridiculous. I can't remember when any liquor store owner or bartender had the authority to dictate how much water my shitter can use, what kind of car I can buy, or issue me a citation for using my fireplace in the dead of winter. They sure as hell never got to take money out of my paycheck.

Fortunately you don't think or you might understand why regulating the water in your shitter, in an area that gets eight inches of rain with a population over a million, might be a good idea. Or why a car that doesn't pollute in an area prone to air stagnation might keep you alive longer. That is why I seldom visit here. Conservatives are a one note piano. Boring.

Funny how some of our dimmer members can't figure out that low flow fixtures requiring two flushes uses more water than before. That translates to more than just water usage.

"The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire. The former are idealists acting from highest motives for the greatest good of the greatest number.
"The latter are surly curmudgeons, suspicious and lacking in altruism. But they are more comfortable neighbors than the other sort."

"The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire. The former are idealists acting from highest motives for the greatest good of the greatest number. Well, I do not fall into either. I am convinced that the human population is out of control and we need to pray to providence that our numbers are reduced by ninety percent of more. What the pockets of population do after that depends upon their leadership. In that regard, "Whatever works best for you is cool." That has been a quote of mine for over fifty years now, but it is as appropriate today as it was in the early sixties.

And San Francisco is a terrific place. And having lived in the San Francisco area, I can say without reservation that homosexuals are better citizens than conservatives. LOL

Oh, no! "Creeping libertarianism" is on its way?!?! Quick, hide the women and children! Seriously, there are many foolish statements in this piece, but if fear of libertarianism, a creed that extols individual liberty as a greater good than government mandated and police enforced collectivism is what we have to fear most, then this country must actually be on the right track. I will try to find the time to topple the foolishness point by point, but it's now past my bedtime. AzWm
