EVERY 4TH THURSDAY OF THE MONTH

Join Aztec Head Coach Steve Fisher
And Student-Athletes For An Evening Of
Aztec Fun Including Food, Drinks And Player Autographs.
Appetizers And No Host Bar Provided

What You Need To Know:

These monthly Happy Hour's are a brand new idea with one overriding purpose...To Grow The Aztec Club And Increase Season Ticket Holders.

What We Need From You:

BRING NEW PEOPLE!

We can only justify these events if they are helping our Membership Grow...and our Scholarship Deficit Shrink.

We need you to bring: the friends, neighbors, relatives and co-workers that you've been talking Aztecs with. Tell them they will have a great time with some great people and meet Coach Fisher and some players.

We know that Coach Fisher is a great recruiter...but we need all of you to start recruiting too.

We need this event to be great and worthwile...so we can keep attracting people like Coach Fisher to these events.

The nature of the Aztec Happy Hour will probably change a bit after this first one...but everyone is invited to this one. We just ask that you do your absolute best and try to bring at least one new person with you (not a requirement this time though).

We plan to move the Happy Hour's to different parts of the community each month. Dress is casual...to whatever you wore to work that day.

Bring some friends...and meet some new friends... and HELP US GROW YOUR NEW AZTEC CLUB (formerly AAF).

As I continue to fight for our online community...please let Mandy know that you learned about the event from this board. They need to continue to see the power of our online group. It would help immensely...if this group brought some people who were ready to become members and season ticket holders Thursday night.

We will be ready for anyone here who can bump up their own membership an extra $25, $50, $100, or more per month Thursday night. If you want to go to monthly debit...let us know.

You're also welcome to rsvp through me here. Many of you have my cell and/or email address. If not...just PM me with who is coming and how to contact you. Otherwise...let Mandy know that Dave sent you.

Along with RSVP'ing...post any questions you have here and tell us if you're coming and feel free to issue some challenges to see who can bring the most people Thursday night.

Never received one. I too am curious. AAF fundraising theory has always been an issue for me and I'm wondering how the name change fits into the overall plan of raising $$. Hopefully the letter gets to my house next week.

Basically, we failed to disestablish the AAF when the Campanile Foundation took over all philanthropic activity for SDSU. After several years, the state noticed that the AAF was not making mandatory reports. The Campanile Foundation was doing the reporting, and I understand that the state is being very cooperative in folding the AAF. The reason for not retaining the name, as I understand it, is that we are no longer a foundation, and to keep the name would be misleading. Hang in there, Matt

"Moving forward, fundraising activities for Aztec Athletics will be conducted under the name of the Aztec Club. The name change was necessitated to alleviate confusion whether this was an "independent foundation." All philanthropic gift activity will be transacted through The Campanile Foundation."

To keep the legal stuff out of it...

The whole "Foundation" thing confused alot of people. Many of us felt that our members never really felt the were part of...or a member of anything.

We've seen reports where not only do most schools use the word "Club" for their fundraising organizations...a few that recently changed to "Club" from some other name (like "foundation) saw big increases in membership and money raised.

"Aztec Club" will look alot better on hats and clothing and give those looking at your clothing a much better sense of what you are promoting.

Again...we want to create an atmosphere where members really feel they are part of something fun...and important.

We need your help...Bring people next Thursday.

...ain't anyone got the idea to hire a bus from OC for $20 a person, round trip unless you can't say good things about my Aztecs?

On the positive side: Coach Fisher gave us a good pep talk, Jim Sterk showed up after fighting his way through traffic from LA, and although he was too late to address the group which by then was on its way out, he stuck around to visit with those who remained. The ever helpful Gina was there from the ticket office and Mandy McKinley is clearly a real "go-getter" who will be a real benefit to the Aztec Club. The plan is for the Aztec Club to meet in this manner the last Thursday of each month at various locations in an effort to build support for Aztec athletics.

On the negative side: Only 33 people other than about five staff members showed up, and for the most part they were the same old faces which meant another sermon for the choir and few if any new members of the congregation in the pews. When I say "old faces," I mean that literally as well as figuratively.

At age 63 (and not counting staff members present), I'd guess I was in the lower third relative to age of those present, so roughly 11 of us kids (including Bill Hammett and Beau Trickey) joined by 22 long-time AARP members.

I'm not complaining about the presence of old timers, of which I am surely one and are the ever diminshing core or Aztec support, but I have very strong concerns about the general absence of younger or even middle-aged fans.

Summary: Thank you Dave and Mandy for spearheading this thing, but clearly there is a lot of work to be done. We desperately need the football program to improve significantly in order to restore the kind of campus and community interest that creates fans who will bleed red and black and open their wallets to support a program they feel is worthy of their support.

I will bring at least two people younger than myself to the next Aztec Club event I attend.
