Nice to see two players on the list from my old stomping grounds Orange Glen. Yes, and it is nice to see two from my recently adopted High School on the list as well. To have two Orange Glen kids on that list is a shock since they have been down for so many years. Valley Center has been great for years so that is no shock. Aztecwin, back when I went to OG all the Valley Center kids went to OG. When VC opened up it killed OG's athletics.

Having Gilster go to Valley Center had as much to do with it as anything. Rob gets a lot of mileage out of the few kids that stick around to play varsity.

There is enough talent in Orange, Riverside, and San Diego County to compete on a national level with second and third picks as long as the system is well defined and proficient and you correctly choose the players/character at a high percentage. Pro-set, 2 back offense clearly is that - it just plain will work if you get the right players and call the right plays. It is dynamic, it allows balance, it can attack the entire field at any time. The 3-3-5 under Long worked and it works in a slightly different form at TCU. Long knows the type of athlete he needs, and I think we see that with the commit he got last or the week before. San Diego has enough talent if you get all of your targets and all the best players, but not enough of the second tier - that is the fundamental fallacy of the 'fence.' Now, you extend that recruiting area to OC, inland empire, etc. and make that your bread in butter while also going heavy into getting the best handfull of players from the San Gabriel Valley, the many good players in City Section and the San Fernando Valley, and hitting Sac and the Bay (look at how many SDSU students are from that area and it shows that it is a marketable destination) you are going to build a monster program. With Craft and the other guy there was a hope that they could turn it around, With the troika of Hoke, Borges, and Long it, to me, is a knowledge they will - they know how to recruit and more importantly they know who to recruit. Agreed. I really feel that Hoke is the program builder. I'm hoping he can be for us what Meyer was for Utah, and Patterson and Mendenhall are for TCU and BYU respectively. Peterson at Boise State as well. Those guys know exactly who to get to fit their styles and exactly how to use them.

Hokefully, we are able to keep Hoke around once the program has been re-built.
