Well, its done. Utah is officially part of the Pac 10. Good for them. I hope we open a can of whoop ass on them when they come to the mesa. Go Aztecs!
Notable quotes from the press conference:
"We would not be here today if Utah had not distinguished itself as a research, academic and athletic institution." Larry Scott
"Its been over 30 years since the Pac 10 has added teams."
"We are certainly aware of your 2-0 BCS bowl victory."
"No conference has won more women's sports than the Pac 10."

The webcast was certainly not Pac 10 quality. Turn up the mic, Utes!

Utah's defection from the MWC may indeed make it tough for SDSU ever to achieve BCS status. But who knows how long the BCS will last?
Remember, we are losing time and effort agonizing over things we cannot control. What we (and by "we" I mean everyone connected with Aztec athletics from the univ. President on down to the occasional ticket buyer) can control, or at least influence, is the quality of Aztec sports teams.
How far away is Aztec football from respectability? Perhaps not as far as we tend to think. Let's take last year as an example. There have been SDSU FB teams in the last 20 years (e.g., 1991, 1992, 1993, 1995, 1996, perhaps even 1998) that could have beaten the Bruins in '09. And it doesn't take a lot of imagination to see how those two fourth quarter collapses could have ended up as Ws. Okay, if you imagine an Aztec team that had been somewhat better (not even extremely better) in 2009 you can also imagine a 7-5 regular season record.
Seven and five is not great, but compared with the last decade it would be hailed with enthusiasm by Aztec fans.
Bottom line: We may not make it to a BCS bowl, but we don't have to give up and accept 3-5 wins a year as inevitable. Seven or more wins a year is not, repeat not, an unrealistic expectation regardless of the reputation of whatever conference in which we find ourselves.
Let's think positively!

Come on, if we were in their shoes we'd do the same. Instead of being ingrates, just be thankful for what they've done to help elevate the MWC to where it currently is. Their departure now puts our turnaround on speed dial fashion. I've been sick of hanging on to the top 3's coattails anyway.

I've been sick of hanging on to the top 3's coattails anyway. you know if they had left and said, MWC is a quality conference and they deserve an auto bid opportunity...sure i would feel a bit different. find me that quote. What your asking for is the moral equivalent of Tiger Woods demanding thankfulness from his soon to be ex-wife for all of his money.
