yeah amir johnson, from michigan. Looks like Fishers days recruiting in michigan are over. I can't believe we have this many scholarships available. Tons of playing time available for next year.
You dont hear much from the other coaches when it comes to recruiting. Pretty much one coach seems to be landing the kids. And he has landed only one. Here s to a potential top 25 season and kids seeing that. We really need an NCAA win.

My guess would be they have an assistant coach who knows the Johnson family. My further guess would be that's just a fallback choice and he's more interested in us and UNLV. I don't live far from Taft HS. If we stay on his radar, I'll try to attend a couple of the young man's games and give folks a report on what I see.

KJ looks like he would be a very important "get" for this SDSU recruiting class...

I have been quietly rooting for Kevin Johnson to come on board. Seems like a perfect fit for what the team needs in 2011. I appreciate the information about him not currently planning to sign in the early period, though he could always change his mind and put it all behind him by signing with the Aztecs. This is definitely the best opportunity he has available and he would provide the beef to go along with what will be the best backcourt in the conference in 2011.

Yes, UTEP. The team that went 26-7 and won the CUSA regular season championship. The team that was in the top 25 last year. The team that went to the dance just like we did. The team that has a higher home attendance than we do. The team that had a player drafted by the Lakers. The team that now has Tim Floyd as HC. Might want to look beyond the Mountain West bubble that a lot of you live in. They were as good, if not better than us last year.

Still, the kid we're talking about lives in a suburb of L.A. and the school Floyd coaches at is not only a couple hours away by plane, it's located in El Armpit, one of the ugliest cities I've ever seen. Further, unlike many schools SDSU competes against for recruits, it isn't known to be an academic powerhouse. Bottom line is that if all the young man cares about is basketball, MAYBE he would choose UTEP over SDSU or UNLV. Since I suspect he cares about other things as well, I think UTEP is going to be merely his third choice.

And like most 18 year olds, when you feel a connection to the coach, you tend to follow him.

However, if I'm Johnson's father, I'm thinking Floyd is now a far less attractive candidate to be somebody I want to entrust my son to for four years. Not only does Floyd now look like a sleezebag, he's a sleezebag who I'm no longer just a 30-45 minute drive away from.

What if Johnson's best friend through AAU plays at UTEP? what if you stopped looking through your red and black colored glasses and realized recruitment is a complex Process with dozens of variables to consider from prospect to prospect?

If every potential recruit used our reasoning we would have 20 national championships. Unfortunately the natural beauty of the city only goes so far.
Things like tradition, winning and exposure are things that some may consider.
