WOW! JFrank is coming along nicely. Yes, he does needs more minutes. pokinsky was right about his analysis of JFrank's game before he arrived on the Mesa! I love his energy, hustle and heart! And, his athlecticism is off the charts. Too bad that our guard missed him on what we have been the DUNK of the year, when Jamaal was on the left baseline running toward basket and Utah was scambling on defense, but our guard did not look up to see Jamaal. That would have been one heck of DUNK because he had a running start! Again, Aztecs are tough to beat when they push the ball up the Court and Run!

Just watched LBF "intensionally miss" his little shot WAY UP on the backboard in order to "feed" JF. Awesome. Do any of you students know if they room together? Unfortunately LB didn't get credit for an assist and instead got a missed FG.

Time for the official scorekeeper to review the tapes.

It looks to me like Jamaal Franklin can play small forward or in the right type of system a big guard.

Great quote from post game interview with Fish who said Jamal play "like his hair is on fire". Dudes motor runs non stop. The other great part about that quote is that Fischer said he acts like the only way to put the fire out is to go faster.

He reminds me of Stevie Thompson who played at Crenshaw High then had a great career at Syracuse.

He is cherry picking and cheating on D way too much right now and I hate the fact that he seems to be doing everything to simply get a dunk ... but he does seem to make good things happen, either way. It seems he defers on offense because he prefers to get a rebound dunk .. yet I think he can drive past his defender every time. He should have as many FT attempts per game as FG attempts with his quickness and length. He just has to value 2 points from the line as much as a monster flush .. and it will be hard to keep him off the court because of his productivity .
The injury to Tapley showed that we will need strong performances from our bench to get to a sweet 16 because of foul trouble or injury. The play last night from Carlwell and Franklin was fantastic.

When KL went around the back dribbling in the open court and then tried to loft the alley-oop to JF, it would have ripped the roof off of Viejas. It still got dunk of the game because Carlwell caught the deflected pass and dunked it. Nice....but just like the missed through the legs jam against Wyoming....the alley oop to JF would have been insane.
As for his game, I agree that he is looking for the spectacular dunks, but he is also playing within himself and deterring to his teammates. As he gets more time and more comfortable, he can be a factor for us this season. His 3-pt. shots have looked good, especially when they go in.
There are a lot of fans that were sticking around until the end to see if JF would blow one up. He is a special talent.
In the post game interview, Leitner was giving him all kinds of crazy love about his athletic ability and his future potential to be an Aztec great. Franklin, in addition to sounding like Tony Gwynn, had some level headed and impressive responses. He praised his teammates and called Billy White the best athlete he has ever played with. He also talked about how special Kawhi is and how hard he plays in practice.
As far as getting minutes this season and next, we need a good selection of athletes who can play multiple positions. If someone is hot and healthy, then Fisher will get him enough minutes. Seasons are long and a lot can happen with injuries, cold spells, suspensions, flu bugs, etc., and I like that we are getting some quality minutes at times from everyone on the bench.
I know there are some down on the prospects for next season, which is fine because it is hard to top the season we have had thus far, but we will be just fine if the guys carry the teamwork and dedication that this team is displaying.
Let's face it, what do we have in our front court this season? Essentially, 3 players who should possibly play the same position (the 4) based on their height (6'7 - 6'9) and strengths (playing around the basket), but they are making it work by playing for each other. There are still plenty of opportunities and minutes for them all to contribute.

When he called BW the best athlete he's seen all I could think was the dude needs to look in the mirror. Leitner said as much, and Jamaal was flattered with the comment. I started following the team in 05-06 and I think Wade was by far the best athlete we've had in that time... that is until J Frank stepped on campus. I liked the way he talked about guarding Kawhi in practice. What a great opportunity for the freshman to have to go toe to toe with KL every day. I think there's a pretty good chance Jamaal starts at the 3 spot next year. 10 rebounds in 17 minutes. That's doing work.

I love the comment that Steve Fisher made. He plays like his hair is on fire.

I'll tell ya what: Initially, I really didn't know what to think about this kid. Wasn't sure what he'd turn out to be. But now I'm convinced that this guy will be one helluva player for our Aztecs in the years to come. He's a lot of fun to watch out there lately! Awesome effort, high motor, the kid's a terrific athlete, and he can REALLY play basketball! The only question in my mind is where does he fit in? I think you're probably gonna have to find a place in the starting lineup next year for him, but that'll mean going to a 3 guard lineup (and a rather small lineup). Tapley's a starter for certain; Rahon has earned a spot as a starter in my estimation (next year, of course); that leaves Jamaal and LBF, and right now I think Jamaal is the better player.......although LBF is the better point guard. PG - Thames 20 min / LBF 20 min = FULL COURT PRESS SG - Tapley 30 min / Rahon 10 min SF - Rahon 15 min / J-Frank 15 min / Shelton 7 min / Williams 3 min PF - Leonard 35 min / Stephans 5 min C - Carlwell 25 min / Young 15 min
