About damn time someone on the right took on that jack wagon. www.weeklystandard.com/articles/stand-freedom_541404.htmlBeck's ratings are dropping like a rock: In a single year, from January 2010 to last month, Beck lost 39 percent of his audience, the steepest ratings decline for any show in cable news. Though he's still averaging around 1.8 million viewers a night, the ratings story is even worse among the most lucrative demo; almost half of Beck's January 2010 viewers between 25 and 54 tuned him out.
Continue reading on Examiner.com: Why is Glenn Beck so angry? So how much longer can he continue on the air? I'm quite aware that most of the right-wing nuts on here don't listen to or watch Beck (although apparently our recently lamented Steve does - not a surprise), but I do think it's another example of what happens with demagoguery - sooner or later, just like Joe McCarthy, they go after their own because they run out of targets on the other side. And I loved his final remarks today - to paraphrase, "Don't take my word for it; go to glennbeck.com and do your own research." =Bob

Actually, Beck makes a blanket statement that people should do their own research. Going to Beck's website (which I have NOT done, Bob! ) might well be a first step in doing that research. If one goes no further, that is the fault of the individual, not Beck. I know nothing of the size of his audience, but the latest data I am aware of show Beck still beating all other cable news/opinion shows in his time slot. However, if his show falters, he won't last on Fox. It's a business, don't forget. Bob, Beck is not a conservative. He is not a Republican. He is not, I think, a populist. If anything, he is as much a libertarian as anything. Beck values liberty and is wary of government. Both those values appeal to me. One should not assume, however, that I am a huge Beck fan AzWm

I find it a bit dismaying that someone who admits he was a loser but has gone to great lengths to straighten out his life should be ridiculed. One may not agree with much of what Beck says on his show, but if one assumes that his reform is genuine, he should be praised for that fact if for no other reason. AzWm

I must say that Kristol is a bit harsh on Beck. It may well be that an Islamist take-over of all of North Africa is unlikely. It is not, on the other hand, impossible. It would be the second time in recorded history that fundamentalist Islam would hve swept across that region. In the 7th Century, it was accomplished on horseback and with swords. This time is could (repeat could) be done with guns and the Internet. Should that happen, and I hope it will not happen, we would be much worse off.
In any event, Beck is not insane for discussing the possibility.

AzWm Will, have you ever in your life dealt with those in recovery? If you haven't, you are writing out of your ass. Beck shows all the signs of recovery - judgmental thinking, seeing everyone who does things they can't do do as being the same as them. I ran a softball league where 6 of 7 teams were recovery. Until you do that, you have no claim on the truth. =Bob

Your insights are . . . well, I just don't know how to describe them! Let's see if I understand this correctly. You, a retired County planning guy, feel qualified to make a diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia for a person you have never met and of whom you have, most likely, no knowledge outside of watching the patent's TV program a few times. Well, that seems perfectly reasonable to me. As for my statement about Beck's being a libertarian, I will remind you that I said; "If anything, he is as much a libertarian as anything." I think most people would, based on that statement, understand that I was speculating. If I thought that Beck was definitely a libertarian, I would have said so straight out. The point is that the West should indeed take seriously the goal of the jihadists, which is to dominate the Muslim world for a start. The odds of that happening may be long, but they are way above zero. When Glenn Beck raises that possibility he is certainly not being paranoid. I wouldn't even say he is being unrealistic. Certainly not any more unrealistic than the Alfred E. Newman-like Obama administration, a group that apparently is unaware of the potential dangers lying in wait in Egypt AzWm '

As a matter of fact, my wife and I spent several years dealing with serious substance abuse by two close relatives (I'd prefer not to be more specific as to their identities other than to say it was not Erik). This was a difficult time, but finally both persons were able to regain sobriety and are doing well now. I'm not sure what that has to do with my statement about Beck's recovery. If his story is true, and why would he claim to have had a substance abuse problem if it were not, he should be praised for having overcome his problem. Beck's politics are a separate issue. AzWm

I am usually on one of the financial channels when he is on so I rarely watch. He must resonate with some people because he has a good market share on cable against what ever MSNBC and CNN put on.

On the other hand, even if all that is true, Beck's stated concerns about big government and the threat from radical Islam should not, on those grounds, be dismissed out of hand. We need to look at things this way; if someone comes to my door and tells me that my garage is on fire I am going to check out the situation at once and ignore the fact that there is something a bit wierd about the guy. If it turns out to be a hoax, who cares? If the claim is true. . . . AzWm

Of the shows on Fox, I like the ones where they bring in all sides to debate. Beck and a few others, pack their audience like Oprah does. And, I hate the shows like that Maddox guy who rant and rave, and spew, but this one is on the Mad Socialists Now Bitter Communists network.
