A few days back I saw the title of a column that appeared on RealClearPolitics, com that intrigued me. This was early in the uprising in Tunisia. The title was something like this: "Uprising in Tunisia will not spread to other Arab countries." Oh, yeah? I didn't bookmark that one, unfortunately. I wonder whether the writer wishes he had not submitted that piece! In this case the author, Thomas Friedman, looks at what's going on in the state of Jordan. Now that the heats on, a number of Arab autocrats are trying to play catch-up by suddenly sacking cabinets and handing out subsidies they can't afford. (I just hate this Friedman. . . he gets to travel all over the world and doesn't have to pay his own way! ;D) www.nytimes.com/2011/02/06/opinion/06friedman.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1&ref=opinionAzWm

These people have been trapped in medieval political systems with the political and fiscal support of the west - despicable.
