Boise St has never been a basketball power but ... They recently hired a new coach (Leon Rice) who was previously a Gonzaga assistant, and he brought in assistants from Wake Forest, San Francisco and Wyoming and they have completely changed the outlook and direction of the program. Only on the job a few months, ... Rice recently landed his first transfer from Oregon (Drew Wiley #21 rated SF for 2007) and already has BSU competing with SDSU for recruits like PG's CJ Cooper and TJ Taylor. Boise St will not come in and dominate the MWC, but Rice is a great recruiter and they should be competitive, and might actually be better than teams like Air Force, Wyoming and TCU the minute they officially join the MWC. If we can also get Kansas, Kansas St and Missouri to join the MW .. we launch into a whole new level of competitiveness in basketball. boisestate.scout.com/a.z?s=336&p=4&cfg=bb

I was thinking of starting the same post then realized that leagues only care about football when adding schoools. TCU is an example of that. I know Boise has always been weak in basketball. I don't know why they have always been weak but it sounds like they are going to get better.

Didn't they go to the NCAA tournament a few years ago? Actually, I think they won a game.

Football is the only sport they're worth a damn (well, maybe rodeo). Should give us a couple of wins in B-Ball every year and wins in baseball, assuming they have a baseball program.

They also have a pretty solid baseball program, I believe.

They also have a pretty solid baseball program, I believe. They don't have a baseball program. As for BSU from a bball perspective, Leon Rice and Wyojic, especially the latter are supposedly very very good recruiter, he landed J.T Terrel and helped Wake Forest have a top ten class according to ESPN, he has already had a great start for BSU in terms of recruiting. I don't expect them to be on the level of the top 4 for a bit, but I certainly think by the time 2011 comes around, it won't be a gimme road game, and they will be better than AFA, TCU, and Wyoming, they will continue to improve under Rice and 3 good recruiting assistants

I see no reason that Boise State basketball will not improve and improve quickly in the MWC.
They won't be a contender, but recruiting will get better which will lead to them being a player down the road.

They also have a pretty solid baseball program, I believe. They don't have a baseball program. Several years ago they said they'd add one if they got an invite to the conference. Don't know if that still holds. =Bob
