How is this any kinda punishment?
Because they appealed the sanctions they can still recruit over the sanctioned limit.
Move the thread if needed but it still pisses me off.

recruited 17 players last year....8 of their incoming class are Early Enrollees which count towards the 2010 class. Took a class of 23 because the appeal pushes the sanctions back a year. 23 + 8 = 31..and this is OFF TOPIC.

The sanction will really hurt them in 2013 & 2014. They will have thin depth then.

TO make this on topic... might a few of those kids with intentions of having a scholy, not have one when the NCAA comes down on them in a few weeks? What can our coaching staff due to get some of those kids who WILL lose those scholies at that time?

TO make this on topic... might a few of those kids with intentions of having a scholy, not have one when the NCAA comes down on them in a few weeks? What can our coaching staff due to get some of those kids who WILL lose those scholies at that time? The kids really get left out in the cold in cases of over signing. If your one of the victims of this practice you are pretty much screwed out of that year. It appears, at least from what I'm reading that USC is allowed to essentially act like the penalties have not taken effect yet while the appeal is pending. I'm not sure any of the people reporting are really sure if USC would have to cut the players down if they lose their appeal..but SC is sure acting as if they don't. I'm guessing that if USC's appeal is denied, the scholarship reductions will just get pushed back a year. Then it's going to be a question of making the numbers work because you're going to have to drop to 75 scholarship players. This means either A) Recruiting a REALLY small class next year (doubtful) B) Hoping for some natural attrition or C) Breaking out some "medical hardship scholarships" or the typical bull crap they use in the SEC to cut players I mean by my count, SC will have 84 scholarship guys on the roster next year, this might be a little off, the numbers are kind of hard to come by and I kind of had to pull a couple sources together to find it..if someone has a 100% complete and accurate scholarship breakdown feel free to share. They have 13 scholarship seniors that they'll lose after this season, leaving them at 73 scholarships. Assuming that there is no natural attrition (guys leaving early for the NFL, or transferring for some other reason). That leaves them with 2 scholarship spots open for next year if their sanctions don't get softened. Highly doubt their going to want to sign a 2 person class. (or even a 4 or 5 person class) so they are going to make room SOMEHOW for more guys. Now Kiffin might have this worked out with his recruits if they have the kind of resources available to pay their own way (Hey we'll give you this scholarship for a year, but you'll have to pay the rest), or even have some sort of rotation where you take turns "not being on scholarship". I somehow doubt this is the case but if they have rich parents (Old alums, former NFL players) they might go for that. Certainly in the SEC they don't work out those kind of deals..they promise 4 year scholarships and go back on their word.
