This has little to do with the BYU fans who may or may not have made an "over-rated" chant last night. I loathe BYU and would never defend anything about their fans.
However, I don't really understand why people think this is such a bad chant. Yes, I understand the logic of "if your opponent is overrated, than your victory is less impressive." But imagine we start a "BYU sucks"-chant in a few weeks. Unimaginative yes, but I doubt anyone here would say, "Hey! Don't say that! If BYU sucks, than beating them would be less impressive!"
Chants are designed to get into the opponent's head. Teams like SDSU and BYU are called "overrated" on a daily basis all week and I'm sure both teams' players get sick of it. Using that chant could (or could not, who knows?) be effective.
So, my point is, if you oppose the "over-rated" chant, than logically, you must also oppose shouting "[opponent's name here] SUCKS".

Actually I do oppose both.
It's easy to beat bad teams, it takes a hell of a lot more to beat the good teams. If (opponent's name here) SUCKS and you beat them...who the hell cares? If the team you beat is over-rated and you beat them... who cares!
A better chant for both sentiments... "We're just better!"

Who cares? Fans will be fans. I'm sure you guys will come up with something clever to throw at BYU in SD next month.

Purdue fans started an overrated chant after we BEAT them in football in 2002 (we were #2 at the time, ended #1). The most fail that the chant has ever experienced.

If your team wins and you start the over-rated chant, that would seem to degrade your win. I would think the pride would be in beating a highly rated team not a over-rated one.
GO AZTECS

One way to look at it is when is the last time anyone chanted "over-rated" to an SDSU team?... Times have changed...
In terms of this case... we are only 5 ranks higher than them, they swept us last year, and they were FAVORED. So we're overrated even though we lost to a team that we weren't favored to beat?!

I agree. Chanting overrated when beating a top ranked conference opponent is fine. Especially a case like us where we were America's darlings for so long. So many people were skeptical, I know I would have chanted overrated if the situations were reversed. It's not about making a statement, it's about annoying the opposing team.
