If you would have told me that in late January we'd be 20-1 with a #8 power ranking in the country I would have floated into the clouds!!! Let's keep things in perspective and get stoked for Saturday!!!

If we are still ranked in single-digits come Monday, I will be very content.

If we are still ranked in single-digits come Monday, I will be very content. Esp. because it means we will have rebounded to beat Wyo...

True we only dropped two spots in the espn power rankings.. not that bad from 6th to 8th. I think when we win on saturday vs. wyo, when the polls come out on monday we will probbaly drop to about 9th nationally in both polls... Syracuse has lost three in a row a Nova' just lost again giving them 3 losses. All in all we should still be top ten come monday..

If we are as good as we all think we are, the ranking is not that big a deal. We ALL believe our Aztecs will make a big run in the tourney. Keep the perspective of where we are right now. Play like we have been and we will head into the MWC tourney/and March Madness with no more than two losses. Then I would not want to be the teams that have to play us. GO AZTECS

Power rankings seem about right. Either Mizzou or Texas will lose this weekend, Nova got boat raced by Providence, and a 21-1 SDSU team isn't going to be ranked behind a 4 loss team. Plus BYU could certainly lose at The Pit this weekend. Beat WYO on Saturday and we'll be ranked 7-9 come Monday.
The Aztecs only have 2 more difficult road games left (@unlv, @csu) and I'm not that sold on the Rams. SDSU should be 22-1 going into the second half of the MWC schedule with 5 of the last 8 at home. Things are looking great.

These next 2 games are going to be a pretty good indicator of the rest of the season. SDSU needs to come out and dominate Wyoming so much that the game is never in doubt. They then need to go to CSU and win against a team fighting to get bubble consideration that is also pretty good.
Heading in to the first half of MWC play (with only 3 of 8 at home) I thought 6-2 or better would be a must to have a chance at the #1 seed in the MWC. At this point, anything less than 7-1 would be a disappointment. Once we get past CSU we only have UNLV, Air Force & Wyoming on the road. While none of them gimmies, AF & Wyoming should be wins if this team has plans on a top 4 NCAA Seeding.

Like I said in another thread, this seems to be a fair ranking and can't argue with it. We will get revenge and beat them at Viejas. I'm not worried about that.

Yes...BUT...the tempo of that game was like none I had ever seen. The first 10 minutes of the second half had almost no stoppages! That had a lot to do with us running out of gas...BYU would have run out of gas too but they had the adrenaline of the home crowd and the confidence of the lead. Wyo wont be easy, but I do not agree that we will be more out of gas another 2,000 feet up. When we played up there I remember being totally out of gas during warmups, but once the game started you didn't remember, that is until you looked at the HUGE sign that told you exactly how high up you were. I think the elevation argument is overstated for the most part.

I think the elevation argument is overstated for the most part. Having spent a good bit of time in Denver--and fairly recently--I can tell you first hand that it's not overstated. It usually takes a couple of days to adjust, and even that's not always enough. Put it this way: I was in Breckenridge a year ago, which is at about 9,000 ft., and I could barely climb a flight of stairs without nearly collapsing from lack of oxygen. Granted I'm not in the best shape of my life (and wasn't then, either), but I'm not exactly a 500 lb blob, either. They're a lot younger than me, and they've now spent some time at altitude, (not to mention that they're in a lot better shape than I am) so it shouldn't be as big a deal for them anymore. They SHOULD be able to adjust more quickly. And that's why it's so baffling to me that they should be so affected by the less than 5,000 ft. last night. It shouldn't be that bad, but obviously something was off.

The fact is that I would rather beat BYU later in the season than earlier in the season. It will be closer to the seedings when we beat them at home.

It is only a matter of time for Jimmer to pull BYU up to the #1 spot. He will single-handedly win the MWC and NCAA championships. Ohio State and Duke WILL get Jimmered.
