I don't think this will hurt SC that much. They lose 7 scholarships a year basically and the only area it will hurt would be depth. Love them or not, they are still the most desired school for talent to attend, especially in So Cal and will still get all the top recruits. They may not be loaded but their starters will still be fine. Wasn't Clay Mathews a walk on for them anyways? They'll find a way around it. Give people "Academic Scholarships" if they have the grades and save a football scholly for someone else. I think we can maybe grab the guys they would have tried to get for depth purposes but now can't due to lack of scholarships but it won't be the big guns.

A couple of hopefuls for USC offers had mixed feelings.

Gardena (Calif.) Serra outside linebacker Woodson Greer, who plays at a school that the Trojans have recruited well at, his hopes for a USC scholarship have taken a hit.

"For me it is affecting my recruitment because it is a less chance for me to get a scholarship," said Greer. "I'm not going to be there the first year and if I received a scholarship and did go there, I would probably redshirt my first year. I would feel it, but not really. But overall, it just made it a slimmer chance to get a USC scholarship."

Meanwhile, San Diego (Calif.) Point Loma defensive tackle Christian Heyward said it does make a difference for him.

As B5Erik says, the only one so far to get it, SMU, has spent over 20 years trying to dig their way out of the hole they landed in. (Though I suspect that it should not have taken that long to at least achieve respectability.)

Dream on. They can only recruit 15 players a year for 3 years no matter how many players leave and they can only have a maximum of 75 in any years starting now, by the end of 3 years, they will be down to the 60's in their total roster. They could get walk-ons but the problem is who can afford to walk-on at SC? In year 4 they will not be close to being a BCS Bowl team. Besides that they are on probation for 4 years. Do you really think Kiffin and Ogeron can avoid NCAA violations in that time period? They are screwed. Feel sorry for Dillon Baxter since he bought into all their lies about not going on probation, losing any bowl games or scholarships. At least SDSU has a chance to go to a bowl in the next 2 years.
