I'll say Leonard had a bad game. He had 6 turnovers and at least a couple opportunities to make an extra pass and didn't. I'm sure he'd tell you he had an off game.
In a game where you can't score a field goal for 8 minutes and the team has 12 turnovers you can pretty much be sure one guy having 6 of them had a bad game. He was a man on the glass, and scored his share but did so taking 20 of SDSU's 62 shots--that's not his game.
Between Thomas going 4/11 and Kawhi going 8/20 SDSU was bound to lose this game. DJ also went 0/7 and 0/5 from 3pt range.
Bottom line is it was a bad shooting night for Thomas and Gay, and Leonard didn't play within himself like he usually does (or so it seemed to me).

And I'll back that up with the fact that it's discouraging but not at all indicative of a problem going forward.
Shrug it off, and go to work at home against Wyoming. Let's let them know we appreciate them come Saturday evening!

Take the ball strong to the hoop and get that foul. The bigs were missing tonight. Instead we play tentative under the basket. Rematch!!! can't wait for my Aztecs to get it back. Shrug it off Aztecs. Don't believe the hype and let's clock in and go to work! I believe!!!!

I would've put Carwell in for some quality minutes and some inside "enforcement" in the paint. That didn't happen, Billy and Kawhi got a little gassed. Shelton did his best but couldn't keep up the pace. Oldie Out Carlwell is too slow. I thought Carlwell provided a nice spark when he came in for hsi short minutes, had a nice block if I recall. I think Fisher has been underutilizing him, he has too much depth to be playing such a limited rotation. If he could just give some guys a 2 minute rest here and there, it can make a world of difference.

Malcom didnt have his best game, but why was he all alone in the paint - where were the other bigs? He seemed to be out numbered most of the game. I think the game plan was to have him alone under the basket with the other guys on the perimeter to contain the fast breaks... Malcolm will have better games ahead. Agreed. At one point on the telecast, the commentators even highlighted the players on the perimeter. Not sure if that strategy worked since the Aztecs usually thrive on the offensive boards. And that was taken away from them. It's easier to block shots when there is only one guy in the middle. I think in the rematch Fisher will go back to the formula that worked for the first 20 games.
