Can some of you posters who are familiar with SDSU chime in with some of the pros and cons of SDSU as a school and the athletics programs, preferrably the basketball and football programs.
I am trying to get a feel for SDSU.
Thanks

The sleeping giant has woken up. After two decades of being a doormat in Football and Basketball, the Aztecs are finally enjoying some success. Lots of local talent in So. California, the Aztecs are now the dominant basketball program in the region, better than UCLA, USC and Arizona. The Football team is getting there, tons of great HS players in California and the Aztecs seem to be getting a few of them lately.
And not a moment too soon BTW, like most of the State of California, the Aztecs have experienced budget concerns the past few years. This latest success should help in that area.

How have those budget cuts affect teams and facility improvements, specifically to football and men's basketball?

Do you really think than the governments will ever get off their high horses and stop spending beyond ouer means, and then cut their spending back?
On another point: never underestimate San Diego State's financial positions.
Are you one of those lazy media noses who is just after a quick screw job?

How have those budget cuts affect teams and facility improvements, specifically to football and men's basketball? It hasn't had much affect on facilities because most have been built with private donations. We play in a city-owned, NFL stadium, so that's not a problem, at least as long as the Chargers are here and most likely not one even if they leave. But keep in mind that unlike some states, California doesn't subsidize university athletics, so the budget cuts hurt academics more. The udget problems in athletics have had more to do with our football team having been bad for 15 years but with it on the rise, our attendance should get much better. In terms of academics, we were ranked 183 by USNWR and were voted the top Small Research Institution at least 3 years in a row. Carnegie classifies us as a "High Research Institution", but that should change since it's based on the number of doctoral programs and we are adding more (we're right on the cusp with what we have now). Last year we received $150 million in research grants which is a lot for a university without a medical or veterinary school. This should give a better idea of where we're at: www.isc.sdsu.edu/prospective/sdsu_ranking.html=Bob
