Haven't heard a word about this but worse case scenario SDSU could just enforce student fees again to support athletics and applicants would still be beating down the door to gain admission.

Read before that less than 50% of SDSU funding is from the State of California -- the only state school who could say that. Budget cuts hurt us, but not as much as the other state college campuses.

No.
Sports is dead in Cali. due to the monopoly. At first UCLA and uSucal thought they could monopolize and shut down all 12 college football programs thereby monopolizing on recruits and kicking out four NFL franchises, ta-boot.
It is not dead due to one last bastione of hope. San Diego State like the Chargits are surviving the east coast shut down of So Cali sports. Why? It is due to the millions of fans who want that fresh face, and San Diego State will always be that fresh face.
You can't keep a fresh face down for much, can you?

The State does not fund Athletics. That is why only 3 State Universities have D1 programs. Every school would want a football program if the State funded sports.

It is a terrible situation, however it is not localized to California alone. Every college in almost every state has to give some consideration to budgetary problems with the collapse of property tax and sales tax revenues during the last three years.

Governmental agencies just refuse to decrease their expenses when their receipts decline. All the tax assessor employees are gunning for anything that moves these days, and if you pull a tax exam, they WILL cheat you, extort and threaten you, and harrass you until you are broke, and ruined.
Be ready.

Yep, in case you guys missed it, there was big, shocking news up here in Sept. when Cal cut 5 varsity sports, most notably their strong baseball program: www.usatoday.com/sports/college/2010-09-28-cal-cuts_N.htmFootball's probably safe for Cal for a while though (not to metntion Tedford's job, a lot of peeps up here want him canned) with Tedford's MEGA-mil new athletic complex.

I have heard the "D" word describing the economic outlook in California, especially in the Central Valley. I hope Fresno St. and San Jose St. continue to play Football, a continued rivalry with both these schools would add a lot to Aztec Football.

"California is not alone in handling huge budget gaps" Sacramento Bee Sunday, January 16, 2011 www.sacbee.com/2011/01/16/3327468/california-not-alone-in-tackling.htmlIllinois and Nevada seem to be in much worse predicaments. New Jersey and Arizona, also in pretty bad shape. California is not healthy in the 16th worse shortfall percentage. Only Alaska, North Dakota and Arkansas seem to be healthy. So, I guess by Yoda's logic, only those states should have collegiate sports programs.
