OK, I'll go ahead and say it; the guy is a TERRIBLE baseball announcer. Listening again last night as he mangled names and generally stumbled through the game. Bad call bringing this guy in to call games.

How many times will I hear "action pitch" on a 2 and 1 count?

We were spoiled when we had Matty V and Grant together. Boy do I miss Matty V.

I still support Enberg. He won't be on our broadcasts for more than a few years and then he'll be no longer. He's up there with the gretest of all time as a sportscaster.
I'm going to relish him on our broadcasts as long as I can.

I'm going to relish him on our broadcasts as long as I can. His style works well with tennis and football because the action speaks for itself and all he has to do is promt the analyst. Enberg and Johnny Mac = Great. Enberg and Fouts= Great. Enberg and Mud with lots of airtime to fill with mindless chit-chat= really bad. He's better with Tony than he is with Mud. Enberg and Mud are like the class clown and the principal calling the game. Dick just doesn't get the cultural references, the quips or the weird baseball (player) lingo. And for heavens sake, learn to pronounce foreign names! You'd think he would have it down with all of those foreign tennis players.

I guess he reminds me my youth more than anything. I get your point. I still like him though. And I agree with Win he could lose the "action count" qoute.

From what I've heard Enberg was pretty good doing baseball games - back in the 70's.
He's still shaking off the rust. It's been a loooooooong time since he called baseball. Let's see how he's doing after the All Star break.

We were spoiled when we had Matty V and Grant together. Boy do I miss Matty V. OMG!!! I agree with Tom on something. He doesn't work well with Grant and his factual errors during the game are annoying. At least get the score right. I kind of expected this after listening to his football broadcasts. Enberg combined with Fouts, the worst color announcer in the NFL, was painful to hear. I miss Matty V., too.

Let's see how he's doing after the All Star break. Thanks for bringing up rust. Dude was a college baseball coach, so he knows baseball. I think it has been 25 years since he called games with the late great, Big-D. He is starting to build a on air relationship with mud, but it is still early. He also has improved a bunch since April, which is good, because there was so much room for improvement. I was lucky enough to spend many of my formative years (19 -- 27) listening to Enberg, before we moved to SD. I think he ads some heft to Padre telecasts. I also hope all who pick on his mistakes do the same for Teddy & Jerry.
