Get it done, Smith. Bury your ego.
This guy is a STUD.

Sign him if he can stay on the field and not on the suspended list. The next time he has ANY conduct issues, it's a year long suspension.

The next time he has ANY conduct issues, it's a year long suspension. 1) NFL contracts are not entirely guaranteed 2) There are routes to recoupe money or not pay the player when suspended for conduct. VJ is doing alot of work talking to Socal schools, etc. about not drinking and driving. He's too young and talented to give up on.

Any contract with him has to be worded carefully. Talented or not, it leaps a gaping hole in our lineup if he is gone for a season. It's not just about the money, it's about wins as well.

The other issue is that he wants a MONSTER contract. Is he worth it? Sure, to some one. He'll get paid. But he (and his contract) have to be a good fit for the organization.
I disagree with what people say about AJ and his vendettas. You could've said he had a vendetta against Gates when he held out and was then missed games because of it. Clearly Gates got his and the team is very happy with it.
Jackson's side is saying all the right things now. They are talking up a desire to stay in town and if he is doing work in the community you can count that. AJ's priority is going to be what (he thinks) is best for the Chargers and if that involves VJ, great!
(You have to admit though, Rivers and Norv have shown that they can really do damage with anybody who is able to not drop passes. San Diego has 10 players with 10 or more catches, tying and NFL record. Crazy.)

VJ adds an element that has been missing, stretching the field for big plays. Throw in a healthy Gates working the middle and this is a scary offense. One thing that I'd like to add is the 900 lb gorilla on the horizon. Collective Bargain agreement. THAT could be a complete ball game changer on what or if anything Bolts will be able to do possibly again with VJ next year. There are a TON of free agents though overall in free agency.

I agree. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get franchised next year. Part of the reason they didn't want to work out a contract with him (aside from the off the field stuff) is that they didn't want to get tied up if there was an impending lockout or just major changes in the way contracts are set up based on the collective bargaining agreement.

VJ is an ANIMAL! If the Chargers are going to make a serious run at the Super Bowl in the next few years, they are going to need a #1 WR like Jackson. Floyd and Nanee are decent as a supporting cast, but the dual threat of VJ and Gates with an emerging power running game will take the Chargers deep into the playoffs.
