Are they going to give his replacement the same dumb agreement where he gets extra $ for scheduling body bag road games?

Why do you think this would effect the Aztecs? Maybe one of our assistants going there as HC?

This maybe relevant to San Diego State. This is from the 562.org "Long Beach State associate athletic director Roger Kirk confirmed that the school is “mutually parting ways” with longtime men’s basketball coach Dan Monson at the end of the season. The university is expected to announce the move later today. Kirk confirmed that Monson will coach the team through the end of the season, with the Beach preparing to head to Nevada for the Big West Tournament this week. Monson is the school’s all-time wins leader and has been with the Beach for 17 seasons, with more than 250 wins and four Big West regular season titles as well as an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2011-12. Monson has been named Big West Coach of the Year four times, including last season after leading the team to the Big West title despite being picked to finish eighth in the preseason poll. This is a breaking news story and we’ll have updates as we get a chance to speak with Monson and LBSU athletic director Bobby Smitheran." www.the562.org/2024/03/11/long-beach-state-parting-ways-with-basketball-coach-dan-monson-at-end-of-season/

I remember when Monson brought Gonzaga to the national stage. They were a true Cinderella with a funny name located in the middle of nowhere. And for the longest time Gonzaga's message board was titled "Slipper Still Fits." I work with a 2012 Gonzaga alum, and he has no clue there was life before Mark Few.

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Cal Poly announced Friday it will part ways with head men's basketball coach John Smith following the conclusion of the season. The move ends a disappointing five-year tenure for Smith, who has compiled an overall record of 30-114, to go along with a Big West Conference record of 9-74. Over the course of the past two seasons, Cal Poly has lost 35 consecutive Big West regular season games, which is an all-time conference record. This season, the Mustangs are 4-25 overall and 0-17 in the Big West Conference. Cal Poly has currently lost 17 straight games dating back to its last win on Dec. 21, 2023. "Thanks to John for his leadership and commitment to our university," Cal Poly Director of Athletics Don Oberhelman said in a statement. "We wish him the very best with what is next for him and his family." keyt.com/sports/college-sports/2024/03/01/cal-poly-to-part-ways-with-head-mens-basketball-coach-john-smith/

Another head coaching job is open now. Pacific fired their head coach after they lost to USD last weekend. Jay Dee Luster was an assistant there for several years as well as Miles Byrd's father.

Monson is a good coach. I think it unlikely LBSU will do better. I think 5 consecutive loses did not help.

Aztec coaches or former coaches that will get looks for the big chair: Shelton Acker Hutson JMO IMO Hutson does not get another opportunity for a while. I think he is a good coach, but his record at Fresno does not show this and especially this year (probably more a result of the quality of the league more than regression from Fresno).

They have been gone for much of the season. Tough job. He is a good choice arch, but coaching can only do so much.

sometimes Dutcher will say to his assistants - they could be a good HC But make sure it is a place where they think they can succeed have the support of the school both have the new coaches back and provide NIL money and have facilities . Make sure you do your homework on what school you choose .

Who’s our next assistant?
Hutson Bland Shelton
Or do we go in a completely different direction like we did with Acker?

When watching the games against Fresno, I didn't see a great interaction with Hutson and Dutch. I would imagine Dutcher wasn't happy that he took a job in the same conference and a rival. It will be interesting to see if he would bring him back. I imagine Hutson might like a change of conferences.

I chatted with him and some former players. Everyone was happy.
