SDSU one of 10 teams mentioned as in discussions with what will be a 8 team tournament. Lot of high profile teams mentioned. frontofficesports.com/new-mens-college-basketball-tournament-nil/“ According to sources with knowledge of the situation, tournament organizers are in discussions with Alabama, Duke, FAU, Houston, Kansas, Oregon, San Diego State, St. Joe’s, Syracuse, and Virginia to participate. Each team will also receive free travel, lodging, and meals during the event.”

Would be huge. Terms of exposure as well as boosting our NIL fund. Hopefully it becomes a real thing.

Why would they want FAU? All their best players are graduating. They are gonna suck next year.

1.) This seems like an overall positive for SDSU basketball if it happens given the name brands involved.
2.) Maybe NBA commish Adam Silver was on to something with an in-season $$$ tourney.

The intent for the tourney is obviously the bottom line, they could probably get decent money from espn with the profile of schools they are discussing

They list 10 teams for an 8-team tournament this fall. I think the three teams that would be most likely to get put out are St. Joe's, FAU or us. Everyone else is either a blue blood or a big-time program. If it gets going, I'd also be surprised if some other big dogs don't join the discussion and offer their teams to partake once the money is assured.

I think they want representation from each part of country so makes sense for Oregon and SDSU for west. If we are able to get in this would be a large benefit if proceeds were only kept in the men’s team. The following year would be interesting iif any of the same teams returned or they rotate new teams entirely.

They are hopefully looking for representation from all parts of the country. This feels like a situation that ffUCLA or U$C gets in at the last cut and we get left out at the last minute. Of course, that is the pessimist side of me. Now, the optimist, hell yeah, they are lucky we are interested and we bring added value. Lets get involved and boost that NIL money. Probably end of someplace in the middle.

Some of us are already in Vegas... and looking forward to every trip our Aztecs make to Sin City!

At this point we travel for Basketball better than either UCLA or USC.
