If Pham makes this team better on ‘multiple levels”, then whether they sign him or not, they’re in trouble this year… mediocrity must be an organizational goal again… RIP Peter, you really tried to change that.

Removes Profar from being an everyday option in left with zero pop in the bat. Allows the rookies more time to develop and less pressure to produce. "Mediocrity" is a false description.

Going backwards in an attempt to go forward can sometimes be a reasonable strategy, but it's not sustainable.

Going backwards in an attempt to go forward can sometimes be a reasonable strategy, but it's not sustainable. It doesn't need to be. If you can't admit that signing a veteran will help this team, that's not a serious perspective.

Roster cut day: Snelling, Iriarte, Martorella, Castanon, Salas among the notables. A lot of talent will be available at the upper levels throughout 2024 and beyond.

If you can't admit that signing a veteran will help this team, that's not a serious perspective. Why not show us all how the signings of veterans like Dixon, Hill (both of them), Carpenter, Odor, Engel, Drury, and Nellie Cruz helped the team. Your case for Pham might then be taken more seriously. Obviously, the Padres' desperation moves have rarely, if ever, made the team better much less did the additions help them measurably. Pham's inclusion in this group will be no exception. And the baggage he carries with him is simply not worth the trouble.

And the baggage he carries with him is not worth the trouble. None of those players were coming off an actual productive season with an actual track record of hitting. Majority of those guys were 4A players. Drury was actually a 107 OPS+ here, albeit in a 46 game sample size. The baggage is heavily overstated.

So when pressed on actual reality, you don't have any kind of response? Coming up with examples that have no relevance to the player and then playing the "baggage" card, when San Diego's own writers are claiming the exact opposite. Winning matters.

Coming from you, that's high praise. Thanks! It really doesn't matter. The season hasn't even started yet. Winning matters. Winning certainly seems to matter to you - especially on a backwater sports forum with 5 or 6 regulars psotters. You argue with everyone/anyone who psots here about anything or anyone, and you must always have the last word - guess in your world that's a win. Most here actually have better things to do than argue with you about minutia ad naseum. So I'll stand by my statements about "veterans" who don't matter, and Pham could certainly be one of them, baggage notwithstanding. You needn't respond - though you will be unable to resist doing so. You've already stated your positions, and any more responses are just you goading and trolling. You'll get no more attention here… go ahead and knock yourself out.

Waldron and Brito were impressive today, Waldron in particular. Pedro Avila is probably the odd man out at this point in the rotation/bullpen.
Darvish Musgrove King Vasquez Waldron
Brito (if they go with a swing reliever) Peralta Go Matsui Suarez Wilson Cosgrove De Los Santos Jacob (If they don't go with a swing reliever)
Pretty interesting mix of repertoires, arm slots and velocity swings.

Highly unlikely that either Merrill or Marsee breaks camp with the big club. JMO.

Highly unlikely that either Merrill or Marsee breaks camp with the big club. JMO. Highly likely Merrill does at this point. Not sure a deal lines up in time before the plane leaves for Seoul. Discussions have been very, very slow.
