I love that he got 28 points, 8 rebounds and 6 blocks and he was playing against a 6'11" 270 lb guy who as a Junior is already listed as the top prospect in Nevada. The last few listings for Compton have him at 6'8" and anywhere from 220 to 240. He could be a helluva 4 next year. He and Saunders beef will make up for the two 7-footers around 200 lbs. That's going to be a huge front line. Throw in Heide and that's 5 guys 6'8" and bigger. Throw in Taj Degourville as a 6'4" SG and you got a team that looks like it's in the SEC or BIG10. Get them to all go in on the defensive end and you've got a team that could go far.
You also have 6'7" Byrd and 6'6" Waters although not sure Waters doesn't go pro or get some serious NIL$ next year. I guess you never know who might go for that NIL$, could be any of the returning guys. I hate having to worry about one more damn thing as a non-P5 school.

well i can see why we didnt recruit Tee Bartlett, the guy has size, but that conditioning, and defense needs major work. Hard for me to tell if Compton was this good or Bartlett was bad. Compton is going to need conditioning too.

I do like his inside game...but his conditioning, and more importantly, his interior defense need a lot of improvement (regardless of the height and weight advantage that he was giving up to Bartlett)...he seemed to be giving a defensive half-effort in the game film (to his credit...he didn't foul the big guy either).

would guess that any recruit who has watched a SDSU game on TV has heard multiple announcers say that to play at SDSU you better want to play Defense
Announcers say it at least once or twice every game and think Aztec coaches tell that also to recruits

The difference in intensity between this and college is amazing! Major learning curve in coming!!!

you are correct especially for Bigs who do not play against quality competition that often
would he be better then Saunders , Heide , or the other Bigs - take it while he visited he had the opportunity to practice against some of the current guys
as he plays through his HS games he might be playing against some decent players
But would prefer he be with then against SDSU

That was really interesting , thanks for sharing and you are right
1) He looks good, has a lot of potential
2) Can clearly see why it would take a couple of years to become a good college defender and even be tougher to become an Aztec quality defender

Watching those clips, he is NOT 6-6. Even AG at 6-7 with his 7 foot wingspan never dunked with that kind of ease, I'd bet this kid is considerable closer to 6-8 than 6-6. Will be a welcome addition to our front court,

What I liked: He got a lot of "easy" points on put backs, dunks, and drives to the rim. Doesn't try to do too much on offense - he knows his strengths and plays to them. Good at getting blocks on rotations. What I disliked: Careless with the ball, and/or his handles just aren't that good. Not enough effort in recovering to his man on defense. Needs to learn how to use his size and reach to contest shots more when he is in position.

doesn't look super interested in playing defense. won't see the court if that doesn't change. quickly.

He wouldn't have been recruited here if he had a disinterest in playing defense. Can't judge a player, good or bad, strictly on highlight reels. Looks like a rim protector to me. Playing alongside one of our two 7-footers is going to be fun to watch the next few years.

SDSU is going to need some quality rebounders - as the game with BSU showed - they got numerous second chance opportunities

He's going to be a great player here. He has some Robert Tractor Traylor in his game. I look forward to seeing him next season.

He's much leaner than I had anticipated. Love his quickness, jumping ability and that he seems to hustle on offense. He looked pretty ordinary to less than ordinary on defense but he definitely has the physical skills to be a very good defender if he buys in. Guys that come here know they have to play defense but they don't always expect it to be so much time and effort in that one phase of the game. Hope he knows it will make him a better player.

there is still a lot of basketball to be played this season and the HS recruits will be playing some additional games also would guess that Waters and Parrish are going to be needing an additional year before they are ready for the NBA - so they could turn pro at some level but could be playing at SDSU or a different school if they want more NIL money Things are very difficult to predict these days with NIL and transfer Portal Would any of the recruits for next year red shirt or others from this year ? Is Butler really ready for NBA ? As some have said do the Aztecs add an experienced player or players from the Portal or do some players from SDSU feel they need to transfer out ? way too early to make all the decisions Stan, you let me know when I can buy you a beer.
