With a core of Magoon Gwath, Pharaoh Compton, Taj DeGourville, Thokbor Majak, Miles Heide, Miles Byrd, BJ Davis, Coach Dutcher has a talented group of players when the current group of seniors moves on.
Magoon and Thokbor are long 7 footers and Compton looks pretty unstoppable.
The SDSU dynasty will continue.
**Edit** Yes, Saunders is definitely a force going into his Jr. & Sr seasons!

I keep seeing Parrish listed as senior on some GoAztecs articles, then Junior on others. Does he have a chance of returning next year? He could really help next years' team with experience and all around game. He could also blossom into the go-to guy.

Saunders is positioned to be the glue and leader of the future but he needs to come out of the "funk" he seems to be in. A pickup of his defense and his perimeter shots falling will go a long way.

Butler, Waters & Parrish are all in the same boat - seniors who could use their Covid years. Whether all or some do is still TBD, as is where they decide to use it. IMO Waters has the most professional upside. Imagine this roster: Starters: Butler, Waters, Parrish, Saunders & Heide Bench F's: Johnson, Gwath, Compton, Majak Bench G's: Byrd, Davis, DeGourville That's a talented 12 with a lot of upside. If any of them leave, say Johnson transfers out & Waters goes pro, I could see us seeking a starting 5 via the portal with Ledee's usage rate available as an enticement (unlike this year) & seeking an experienced shooter at guard via the portal. Whether as a starter or moving Byrd into the starting line-up & having them be the hired gun off the bench, ala Trammell. |

No way Butler back. Don't think he has an NBA future, but will pursue professional career anyway? Waters listed as a Jr, played 10 games for U$C 20-21? Pray he stays another year. Parrish played at Oakland 20-21 so should have covid year. Hope he comes back. But, there is money to be made overseas.

still a lot of games to be played - MW Conference play - then hopefully additional 3 games for MW T and hopefully a good run in MM - where it can also depend on the team's seed -
Take those variables - add health/ injuries - team's seed and of course luck
A lot for some of the players you mention depends on how they and the players do in the remainder of the games
Let's also toss in the situation that Butler was fortunate to have happen - hitting that 3 point shot shot and the Aztec run in MM sure changed his projections
What happens if the Aztecs do not do as well so there is not the exposure for the seniors - do they try to improve their personal status by playing an additional season - who knows -
All I am saying lets reevaluate the situations in a few months - Think all the guys need to continue to develop their game for them selves and the team . Last year also showed that advancing to the Final 4 sure helps the players as well as the team

I think, if Waters stays, we could see Dutch pivot the offense to put the ball in his hands a lot of the time, a faux PG role from the wing. I think he could have another jump, not quite what we've seen from LeDee this year but similar, and really be the primary ball handler and shot creator.
The big question I have about next year is will Dutch rely on his horde of young big men, or will he take another swing in the portal for that big shot blocking 5 like he did this year. I think a Johnson transfer is probably within the realm of possibility, and it seems likely that Majak would redshit, so that leaves Elijah, Heide, Gwath and Compton. Certainly deep with bodies, but again none that fills that traditional center role we've seen in the past. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

As we noticed the Lobos have some decent younger players and so do other teams
Will Waters , Parrish use their extra season to improve their game next season be it at SDSU or another school - Even Butler looks as though he could use another season
Also do Heide - Saunders start improving more then they have ? Also Bryd
As Dutcher said after the game - there is still a lot of basketball to be played
We will see what guys continue to develop their game -

Waters last 4 games: 92 minutes, 7-25 FG 28%, 4-11 3FG 36%, 0-1 FT 0%, 15 Rebs, 17 Points, 4.7 PPG - hope he gets healthy soon. Terrible stretch of games. |

not sure if he is totally healthy
neither he or Parrish have been consistent - would toss out there that both might need at least another year - same could be said for Butler - although that does not guarantee that if they stay for another year it will be with SDSU - NIL ?

Maybe by his 3rd year. Heide's block % is 5%, over twice that of Ledee & respectable. Especially for a FR, and still learning. He's also light-years ahead of MG offensively. MG has a nice stroke but that doesn't make him a good shooter. He needs time to develop, get experience and understand the game at this level. Again, Heide is way ahead of him from a physical perspective and skillset as well. MG has a great ceiling, but that ceiling is going to take time. Penciling him in as starter in his 1st year of playing is way premature. |

I hate to say it but NIL will likely knock us down a peg or two. Dutcher is great but our market doesn't have the booster support to compete.
