He was promoted to San Antonio to keep the core of players together they all sent up for playoff purposes. The White Sox did the same thing a few years ago with Robert and others. The Padres aren't promoting players for "flash."

It may not be, but it's really good for promotion/promoting him.

They want him to catch big leaguers, see how his body responds to the grind and it's far easier to monitor guys when you see them every day. He's obviously not breaking with the club, but he's earned the right to be there with his talent and he would be a NRI either way. They believe he's ready for the challenge, same with a handful of others.

Get him as much work as possible with the big boys, before being sent over to minor league camp.

Any experience up there is great.

Of note on Salas: Minor league analytical data is not public information, which is incredibly annoying - But I digress.
Salas had an overall contact rate of 77% and an in-zone contact rate of 85%, which are in line with MLB averages. His 90th percentile exit velocities were over 102 MPH and his average was 87, both elite for his age. Combine that with a chase rate of just under 20% and it's a pretty unique package, all things considered.

It would have been nice if one of these guys was a lefty. The Pads traded (foolishly) Gore and didn’t resign Snell. Morejon’s arm is a mess and there really isn’t anyone else MLB ready. There are 5 gaping holes in this team. I am not impressed with Preller, so many colossal misses in talent evaluation and some of the dumbest contracts in recent MLB history. The Padres record is well below .500 with him calling the shots. Awful.

Curiosity only--how many of these actually played with the Padres? Doesn't really matter - Farm systems are used as commodities to acquire established assets. The goal of drafting is to identify talent. Homegrown players offer you no bonus points.
