I knew this day was coming and it still hit like a ton of bricks. An owner that cares and invests in winning is a rarity in professional sports and Peter Seidler embodied that to the letter. He cared about his city, his team and his fans more than anything. A tremendous, brutal loss to San Diego.

f x x x . This reminds me of Mike Ilitch. Hoping we can win a World Series in Seidler's memory. And I hope we keep owners who are as dedicated as Seidler.

Before anyone goes crazy (please don't) - The plan is to keep the organization in the Seidler family.

Very sad news. He obviously wanted to win it all, and went for it. That's the type of ownership you want. My condolences to his family.

Very sad to hear of his passing. He was well liked in the organization which has been first class under his leadership. This is a town where we have had the likes of Tom Werner, Gene Klein, the Spani and Donald Sterling as owners of professional franchises. Having Peter, seeing him sitting in his field seat enjoying the game like a youngster, was refreshing. I hope the players pick things up this year and win the WS in his memory.

Awful day for his family. I hope he didn’t suffer lots of pain at the end. I hate when these things happen to good people.

Tragic news for the family and Padres.
It explains the all in philosophy Preller had this past season to win a championship for his ailing owner.
The Padres will be moving forward with a heavy heart.

Man, that just sucks. 63 is far too young to die, and for all his faults, Seidler really tried to bring a WS Championship to San Diego. He went all in.
I don't care if the team remains in the family, no one is going to be as committed to bringing that title to the Padres the way he was.
This sucks all around.

The spending is going to be cut way back. The team is overextended on payroll. Our window for a WS Champion has closed.

You're only aware of Seidler because he was the public face of the franchise. Your assumption is just that. B) Payroll was always going to scale back the next three seasons. It was part of the risk assessment of the payroll going up in 2023. The Padres are not going to run a payroll near $300M consistently. Your constant negativity is gross.

No, the Padres being the ONLY team this old to not win a World Series is gross. The Padres constantly being also-rans and a joke of a franchise is gross - and without Seidler's obsesion driving the team we will see a huge dropoff. I've been following this team for 47 years. I went to my first Padres game in 1976 - Randy Jones was picthing (we won). I'm sick and tired of never winning when it counts the most. I'm even more sick and tired of the team not being legit contenders. Hell, for a vast majority of this century the team has flat out sucked. Tell me why I should have any positive feelings about this franchise, especially right now.

I'm not going to tell you how to feel, but acting like you have any idea how the franchise is going to be run or how the Seidler family is involved is silly. Like I said, the only reason you even know about Peter Seidler is because of how involved he was publicly with creating a new identity for the team. He's one of many, many people behind the scenes. What happened prior to Seidler is irrelevant. The goal wasn't winning.

Few people have that kind of obsession, and I don't think you can reasonably expect his heirs to share that obsession.

There's sufficient baseball history there to make REAL BASEBALL history. I have no worries about ownership going forward. It'll take the family some time. If San Diego mourns the loss of someone like Peter at the high level that we're seeing, just think about how his family must be doing. It will take awhile.

I can't help but think of the '84 RAK organization. I know this is purely a sentimental/emotional reaction, but I can't help but envisioning making a WS run in PS' name next year. One can hope.
