That now that the Padres are even behind Washington, I truly hope that Pittsburgh and the Mets pass them up too. They're only a game an a half ahead of both of them. I want them to be way past embarrassed and into the mortified range. While we're at it, let's have the hopeless, hapless Cardinals pass us too.
We're only 4 games ahead of them and our next 13 games are against, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Houston and the Dodgers. What are we predicting? 3-9?
That should get us a good draft choice that Preller can eventually trade for a bloated, overpaid veteran.

The wheels are really wobbly.

There are eight teams ahead of us in draft positions. But the Mets and Pirates are right behind us. Tigers are playing better and St Louis could pass us too. We have a chance.

Because of their "luxury tax" status? Yes. If we didn't sign Bogaerts (putting us under the luxury tax), and if we sold at the deadline Snell and Hader (getting a bunch of prospects), we would be set up to have a really nice farm system...

They didn't get the offers at the deadline that you think they might have. What were they offered? Nothing close to the level of return you'd want for either guy. Limited number of suitors and Baltimore wouldn't part with their top prospects.

That's pretty surprising, given how valuable a cy young candidate, or a closer with a 1 ERA, is in a playoff push. You would think packaging both of them would net you two top prospects at least. Two top prospects + a couple of decent ones.
