What a disappointment he has been since about the 3rd week of the season on. He's now 4th in the Major leagues in hitting into double plays with 15. (Manny's right behind him with 14) He's been batting 5th all season, behind three guys who get on base a lot and Manny. But he's still only got 37 RBI. Because he's HORRIBLE with RISP. HORRIBLE!
The only guys that makes him look good are Cronenworth and Grisham. Grisham is stupefyingly bad at the plate.

Another choke AB for Bogaerts. Bases loaded no out in the 10th and he can't even get it out of the infield. Force out at home. Padres now 0-10 in extra innings. Unbelievable!

With Boegarts' wrist situation - which the Padres should've been well aware of - it's a degenerative situation that can't be band-aided or "played through" forever with injections. His shelflife is limited by that. I obviously don't know the nitty-gritty details of his situation, but it doesn't appear to be something that can be fixed with surgery or some kind of physical therapy. Not sure why he was paid big bucks with these problems. Gamble? Preller being Preller … gotta grab all shortstops.

And I'm not anti-Xander, but I'm am curious about the wrist diagnosis.

It's a long story, but the short answer is once they pivoted from Turner and Judge, Xander was the top choice at the top of the market and the organization wasn't entirely clear on Manny's long-term outlook at the time. Seidler went over and beyond everyone to bring Manny back, but that wasn't the case when Bogaerts signed.

That's great, but what about the wrist? What about it? I thought he had recurring issues with his wrist.

I thought he had recurring issues with his wrist. Yes. Aggravated further by being drilled by Spencer Strider with a fastball. Played through it.

I thought he had recurring issues with his wrist. I don't think he's going to be the offensive player we thought he would be, unless they can completely fix it and not be a recurring issue.

soto makes bogaerts look like an all star. below average left fielder, low baseball IQ, (picked off first, ran from first to third on a fly ball- caught-double play), not a clutch hitter. the "new willy mays"? nope. but we can always use the famous aztec quote, "he has potential." for all the hype, a disappointment.

Yeah, he really doesn't look like the "generational player" some were crowing about last season.
