It was announced late Wednesday Night that the A's have signed a binding agreement to purchase a 49-acre site owned by Red Rock Resorts.
Their plan is to build a 35,000 seat partially retractable roof ballpark on the site, at a cost of $1.5 billion, with other possible development on the site.
The A's plan to meet with the state and Clark County to form a public-private partnership to fund the stadium. Translation--probably looking for some sort of county/state "contribution" to help pay for the stadium, a la Allegiant Stadium.
Excerpts of a story from the ESPN website.

Add it to the list of my relocated childhood teams, along with the Clippers and Chargers. And to think how close we've been to losing the Pads as well. Good to know SDSU isn't going anywhere. except hopefully to a better conference

A's have been everywhere, Philadelphia, Kansas City, Oakland - and now Sin City. Exorting a few Billion $$$ from a city like LV must be fairly easy. With all the tourists going into LV, their nightly walk up crowd should be fairly robust, and considering all the money floating around in Vegas, there will likely be plenty of season tix sold before the first pile even gets driven into the desert sand. East Bay didn't support them well, and the ownership gave Oakland lots of options that could've kept them there. A new Ball Park would've helped that team stay in Oakland - but who's going to pay for all of it? Guaranteed that A's ownership isn't coming up with the dough to build a palace in Vegas.
But Oakland sports fans have gotta be seething - bet they'll never set foot in Vegas as a tourist. Ever.

In less than 5 years they've lost the A's, Raiders (for the 2nd time) and Warriors, just brutal. They now have zero big pro sports. I remember the gut punch the Chargers leaving felt like; Oaktown fans must feel like they've been in the ring with Tyson. Boy did I leave (2018) and move back to SD at the right time!

In the 80's, the Giants were outdrawn almost every year by the A's, but that started changing by 1993, as the Giants started outdrawing the A's--then dominated the A's after Alphabet Park opened. The A's still drew 2 million plus from '01-'05, but outside of 2014, the A's haven't drawn 2 million in a season since '05. Plenty of baseball fans there, but pretty much no one is a fan of where the A's currently play.

I wouldn't include the Warriors on that list. Their moving to SF is like if the Chargers had moved to Poway.

Of course, I would imagine that people living in Oakland do not like San Francisco. So it's also a bit like the Chargers moving to L.A. if L.A. were 60 miles closer.

[/quote] Nope, if you lived in Bay Area you'd know that it's just like when the Chargers moved to LA. Low/middle income in Oakland is a far cry from $$$ SF and most Oaklanders/East Bayers were resentful of the move.

Some of the natives aren't giving up so easily … anyone from San Diego understands exactly where these fans are coming from…

Good to know SDSU isn't going anywhere. except hopefully to a better conference There was some early talk by Kliavkoff and Crew, that they'd create a new SoCal media vortex by Changing the name of Cal State Dominquez Hills to SDSU-North, playing all games at Dignity Health Sports Park. Maybe today's vote will finalize that dream.

Don't look now, but the A's have won 7 straight, and don't even have the worst record in baseball any longer.
Kansas City now has that distinction.

Of course the owner is the problem, but the Nevada senate yesterday approved the $380 million the A's wanted, it now has to pass the state assembly (50/50), and then needs to be signed by the governor (who called the special session of the legislature to get this done), who will sign it. Then again, the A's owner is a weasel. They have claimed they will draw 2.6 million--in a 30,000 seat stadium. Those numbers don't add up. I also think Fisher is going to try to some how get more money than the $380 million already proposed, as he did want $500 million originally. EDIT: And even with all of the tarped seats, the A's had almost 20,000 empty seats last night, despite the "reverse protest". The A's really should stay in the Bay Area, but I don't think they can with their weasel owner.

A bit of a correction from yesterday's post--the next step in the process was the Nevada state assembly approving what the state senate approved yesterday. The assembly also passed it. Now, it needs to go back to the senate one more time for final approval, before getting an almost automatic signature from the governor. They may indeed be the Las Vegas A's starting in 2025.

The Nevada governor has signed the bill--now, MLB has to approve the relocation request.
