The only scenario available now is a 3 way tie at 82-80. Padres would win the tiebreaker. Both the Cubs and D-Backs hold the tiebreaker, as they both won the season series vs the Padres. Cubs and Marlins, not Arizona.

Oh look… Suckez blew another game. He’ll obviously make a perfect closer next year for this perennial loser of a ball club. Good thing they have him locked up.

I HATE that managers are so damn locked in on L-R match-ups. How the hell does Melvin let Choi bat in the 9th with the tying run on 3rd, leading run on 2nd with 1 out? Choi has batted 31 times as a Padre and he still in hitless!!!! 31 ABs!!!!! Why wouldn't you pinch hit with Campusano or at least Cooper? I know Campusano is hurt but he's still a better hitter than that stiff Choi! Poor Snell has had one of the best seasons in Padre history, 2.25 ERA and 234 Ks, and all he's got to show for it is a 14-9 record. He's had terrible run support and I wouldn't come back here if I were him. You think he's not going to come back because he only won 14 games? No, he won't be coming back because we won't be able to afford him.

Except payroll is a consideration. Our payroll is capped at 200M. If we hadn't made the trade, we would have been able to lock down Snell to an extension. Now we are going to be paying Soto and Bogaerts, instead of resigning/extending Snell and Kim. There's a salary cap in baseball? How long have I been asleep for... Okay well I guess we will see if Snell, soon to be two-time cy young award winner, will be coming back as a Padre. Seems like the type of player that you want to hold onto. 6.1 WAR this year, more valuable then Soto fwiw.

No, he won't be coming back because we won't be able to afford him. Interesting, but not true. Well, there's afford and "afford". Could Seidler come up with the money if he really wanted to do so? Yes. I've seen suggestions of 5 years/$100 million all the way up to 7 years/$200million. But it's always scary giving that much to a 30-year old pitcher, especially one who has shown significant control problems in the recent past. Do they want to give $25million/year to a 6-inning pitcher? I love the guy for both his pitching and his attitude. But there's a whole lot of $ coming off the books with him, Hader, Pomeranz and Lugo. If they trade Soto, that leaves even more money to fill in the many, many gaps in this roster. I'd love to keep Snell but not at the price he'll command.

My guess is somewhere between 6Y/144M to 7Y/182M. 5Y/100M - Musgrove's extension - was a hometown discount. Now maybe Snell takes something like 6Y/144M over a 7Y/175M type offer or something to stay with us. I think that he would prefer to stay in SD.

Tragic numbers: We currently can't catch the 3 teams that are in the WC spots--but we still are not mathematically eliminated yet.
But if we lose one more game, it will finally be over.

Marlins lost 1st game Reds lost Cubs just lost Marlins 2-2 late in 2nd game
I know it’s not likely to happen but I do like dragging things out as long as we can

If Trent Grisham is our starting Center Fielder next year, I'm going to be, and so will MANY others be EXTREMELY disappointed. I really like him from a personal standpoint, but he's such a rally killer, for many reasons. I'll give up some defense, for more offense out of that position.

I think the Marlins are going to win the final WC slot with 84 or 85 wins. FWIW, we would still be alive if we had won those two games that we lost, in the same position as the Reds.
I really wish that we had either sold Snell and Hader at the deadline for pitching prospects, OR actually made better trade deadline deals to get a legit starter, not Rich Hill. In either scenario we would be better off.
At least we do get to see a Padre Cy-Young winner, which is pretty cool.

I think Snell should get it, but do you think it's possible Strider could get it based on his performance, and the fact that he pitches for the Atlanta Braves?
