9. Angels owner Arte Moreno said in recent days that Diamond Sports is current with its payments to the Angels, but The Athletic’s Dan Kaplan confirmed Diamond missed its payment to the Diamondbacks. Diamond also reportedly missed its payment to the Padres. 10. It’s reasonable to believe Diamond might not be current with Cleveland, either, since the New York Post reported last week that Diamond was “expected to use the bankruptcy proceedings to reject the contracts of at least four teams to which it pays more in rights fees than it collects back through cable contracts and ads.” The Diamondbacks and Padres are two of those teams. The Guardians are another. theathletic.com/4325836/2023/03/20/cleveland-guardians-spring-training/?source=user_shared_article

Don't know enough about the economics and dymamics of the streaming vs. cable situation in this case to guess what might happen next. Bally/Diamond/Sinclair/Losers are going down at the beam, and faster than the Titanic. Their financial model apparently doesn't work well enough for them to stay in business much longer, even with some reorganization of debt. Too bad the Padres are dependent on a 3rd party like this one right now. With the kind of season that's brewing, the last thing they need is an interruption in the telecasts. While these contracts apparently aren't in NFL level in terms of $$$, some of the up and comers in the Streaming World like Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Netflix, Hulu, et al, should be consulting their calendars - and their attorneys - right now. If they could pick off a few of the plumb clubs - particularly those with a great chance to make them some money long term - it seems crazy for them not to be prepared to make a few offers. Who knows, some of those may be on a conference call right now.

I'd like to see the Padres take over their broadcast rights, a la the YES network, and show other local sports as well.
