Manaea just signed with the Gigantes. The good: He gave the Padres 150 innings last year. The bad: . The 4.98 era was kind of tough to watch….well above his career avg. He thrived in the bay area previously. Scenery matters.... I think he'll be a decent #4 or #5. Hope he has a bounce-back year, but...he really wasn't very good the 2nd half of last season.

Manaea was obviously a good team guy, kept things light in the dugout as well as the locker room. Those guys are important to a team's makeup. But his pitching at the end … ugh. Hopefully, it was some kind of undisclosed injury or overuse (?) issue (though that hardly seems possibly given his overall innings pitched), and he'll bounce back for the Giants. For what he's being paid, he'll need to make better pitches next season, that's for certain.

The market's really gone a little crazy post-Covid - but more power to the players who benefit from the wild variability.
