Some observers thought that the fall of Communism signaled the final victory of free market capitalism. Well, hold on a minute. A new bird just flew in to take the place of the former. . . state capitalism. This concept, which is quite appealing to those who wish to control societies for their own benefit, must be understood. You will get a better idea of what this is about when I tell you that the author, Ian Bremmer, has written a book called The End of the Free Market: Who Wins the War Between States and Corporations? The linked article is from that book. www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2010/05/21/the_rise_of_state_capitalism_105677.htmlAzWm

And American businesses are doing everything in their power to help. Our manufacturing businesses are falling all over themselves to set up partnerships with the Chinese. God help us if we ever get in any type of conflict where we must, once again, produce most of our own goods. Lets hope by then we all won't be speaking Chinese.

God help us if we ever get in any type of conflict where we must, once again, produce most of our own goods. Lets hope by then we all won't be speaking Chinese. I think we would find a way to solve the problem you state in your response. However, you make a good point. Business is apolitical. If there is money to be made in China, business will find a way to capitalize on that fact. The alternative is to mandate via government decree that no American business can operate in or for China. Well, that just won't work. Not in today's world. AzWm
