Noteworthy that Hosmer and especially Machado are hitting the stuffing out of the problem baseballs. Leads to some speculation about some of the movement characteristics of these balls. Pretty obvious that some really good hitters are just not making the same kind of contact that a few others have been able to make so far. Balls that last year would've probably been home runs are dying in the air before they get out of the park. Nothing but limited observations here, but it seems like line drives are the ones that have the best chance of getting out on most days. Yes, and no secret that, as of now, the two best hitters on the team are barreling the ball, big time. A lot of their batted balls for outs are barreled as well. So, just keep barreling, and good things will happen. Kim, to some regard, as well. Hosmer has 4 barrels, Kim has 6, Machado has 8.

Hosmer legitimately looks like a better hitter then he was last year.
There will be some regression and his inflated stats will drop, but I see his numbers at the end of the year being better then they were last year (enough to where he is maybe 1-2 War, and the DH helps hide his bad defense too).

That's the hope with the impending 10-5 rights and full no trade clause.

They're both making REALLY good contact, and producing.

Matt Beaty has 0 barrels and may never get a hit again. Until the next time he's at bat … Plus an RBI. He needed that… desperately !! Now, maybe Abrams will get the bat out of his AZZZZZZZtecs and keep this inning alive.

By the way, what constitutes a barreled ball to you, or your go to stat guy? A barreled ball to me, and when I played, meant that you hit it on the button, the sweet spot, hit it on the barrel, squared it up, etc... All of those guys you mentioned, especially Hosmer and Machado, have more batted balls barreled than mentioned, even if they're for outs.

Hitting it "hard" isn't a barrel.

Any of those superlatives work for a hitter.

Any of those superlatives work for a hitter. Maybe, but statistically speaking, not the same thing. Just like hard hit balls have to be 95+ to qualify on Statcast as well.
