Padres bats need to pick it up! They could very easily be 8-3 instead of 6-5 with some additional offense.
Tatis looks very eager to get back in the lineup, when that happens and IF Abrams starts to hit I wonder if he will get put in RF.

With the Mendoza family that's currently inhabiting the lineup, anyone might be a better fit in RF. Gotta wonder, however, who's going to be saying bye-bye for awhile when the team has to drop 2 players to get to 26. That's coming right up. And with Snell and Clevenger coming back shortly, that'll mean two more players going back down. Should be an interesting weekend series if the Padres can put together the kind of game they did against Atlanta last week. Guys are getting on base, they just aren't getting the timely hitting needed to get them plated so far. If they can't stop leaving all these potential runs on the bases, it's gonna be a Lost Weekend (with apologies to Ray Milland).

Offense is down across the league, as the current home run rates are the lowest in several years. Two days ago, there were 15 home runs hit across 14 games. That's the lowest on any date in April since 1993. Padres right now are slightly below league average offensively.

Some of the team batting averages (I know--small sample size) are downright microscopic this season.

Somebody on here said that the balls were going to be flying out of the parks this year. It's early, but I don't know if that's going to happen.

LOL. Looks like Pham is focused making the Padres pay for not keeping him around. Though I don't think he's worth what the Reds are paying him at $7m - and apparently neither did the Padres.
Still, if he ends up hitting circles around Volt by the end of the year … and MANNY. This guy's just en Fuego!
Guess Volt just TKO'd the Reds' catcher, but he was still out by a mile at the plate. Third base coach maybe could use a little update on someone's arm and someone's legs?

He'll surpass that in Cincinnati's ballpark without a problem.

He was out by a mile. Not a good decision by the third base coach, unless Voit blew by his "hold up" call. Voit is sloooow.

One of the worst teams in the league at getting runners home in that situation. Took a perfect relay and the catcher being absolutely torched at the plate. Reds lose their catcher, their DH and their challenge. Advantage Padres.

Even though the last relay throw was off the mark, and put the catcher in the danger zone, he was still out by a mile. Not even close. Lucky Voit didn't get hurt as well. Hopefully, it will be advantage Padres, and that run thrown out at the plate doesn't hurt us at the end of the game.

Aggression for a team that cannot score with runners on (bottom five in the league) is fine. Team is undefeated when they score more than 3 runs. Take chances when you can.

You've got an incredibly slow runner with Voit, and the fielder handled it cleanly, no bobble, you don't send him for those factors, amongst others. That wasn't a chance, it was a no chance in heck, call. He was out by a mile. Maybe in a high school game, it's a chance, or it CJ's running.

Looks like much ado about nothing - Offense is rolling right now with some solid contact. Good timing.

Haven't seen the DH rule come into play before with the special case that the DH replaces an injured position player in the field and a pitcher replaces the player who left the game in the lineup.

If Hosmer keeps playing like this (well, close), do the Padres really want to trade him?

By the way, I cringed when I saw Tatis playing soccer on the field, and falling down on his wrist during this rehab stint. Not good optics, and not very responsible.

Yeah, you could tell he didn't like it, or that he wishes he wouldn't do it. He said it wasn't the best optics. This can be filed in the category of, "Well, what else was he going to say." Or, "You know he wasn't going to rip him."
