I'll say this - I'd rather have the Padres go out in the LDS than lose in the LCS. It hurts a LOT more losing in the LCS. Hilarious. You harped on and on about how beating the Dodgers (which you wrote couldn't be done) was the goal and nothing else matted to you. They prove you wrong and now you write you'd rather have lost that series? You truly are the #1 board curmudgeon, which is saying something. I don't believe I ever said that beating the Dodgers was the #1 goal. Others did, but not me. I always said the World Series was the goal, but I didn't believe that the Padres could beat the Dodgers given the fact that the Dodgers had won 9 straight series against the Padres, and none of them were very competitive. I wasn't the only one. People who get paid to be baseball experts all agreed that the Dodgers would win that series. I was psyched to see the Padres win - I couldn't believe it! And then I bought in, and thought we'd have a good chance against the Phillies. But when we lost that first game something looked off with the Padres, and the Phillies looked really pumped up. That was a nasty bit of cold water splashed in my face.

They are there for ratings and sound bytes. Alex Rodriguez and David Ortiz, while good baseball players, aren't good baseball analysts.

Leaving Hader in the bullpen to watch Suckez blow the game, and then letting - or having - Grisham bunt with runners on 1st and 2nd. That's about all that will be remembered from this asshattery of a game. Oh, and Melville. Hope they all enjoyed a nice quiet flight home. His name is Robert Suarez. I see you had no comment for the numbers that illustrated how much of a "liability" he was. God forbid we give credit to one of the best hitters on the planet for laying off an elite changeup and then hitting a fastball to the opposite field in miserable conditions.

Yep, that was just an absolutely huge blunder to not bring in Hader there with your season on the line. The whole country was sitting there watching the moment, waiting for Harper to be the hero once again, once we all realized that Melvin was going to let Suarez pitch to Harper. You could just feel it. You knew there was a great chance he was going to go deep. The crowd was going nuts. Now, if Harper and the crowd saw big bad Josh Hader trotting in from the bullpen, Harper gulps and the crowd is not so confident. Just an epic blunder by Melvin, to say the least. Dennis Lin, who is coveted by a few on here, lambasted Melvin for it. I mean, what the heck was he thinking?? That was the season!!! Incredible.

The Phillies were much more aggressive then we were in how they used their pitchers in games 4 and 5. It definitely worked out in their favor.

If I didn't watch the game today, and someone told that we only used Darvish, Suarez, and Hader, I would say that we must've won. The biggest piece of the the puzzle was never used in my post above, and ignored while in an OBVIOUS situation of needed use. Inexcusable Melvin. How many more chances are we going to have to get to the World Series, and that's after FINALLY beating our nemesis to the North. We finally did beat them and then Melvin proceeded to choke on an obvious call to bring in Hader to face Harper, if that happens, there's a very good chance it comes back to San Diego. What are the chances we get past the Dodgers again? I don't know. Unbelievable.

Who knows what the Dodgers will look like next year? They have a lot of free agents, Trea Turner being a huge one. They will have good pitching next year for certain, but beyond that... I mean we might have a better lineup then they do next year.

I'll be surprised if they don't have the top 1 or 2 talented team in all of baseball, again next year.

Yeah no they will be really good. My point is more that we will be really good as well.

Watch as the dodders land Aaron Judge … Mookie will happily give up his spot in RF and come to the infield to play if when that happens.
And – with apologies to Jerry Coleman – the beat(down) goes on…

And – with apologies to Jerry Coleman – the beat(down) goes on… So they'll win 121 games and lose again in the NLDS With the "new. more balanced 2023 schedule" the dodders will face a stronger schedule in terms of competition. The NL West will remain their main playground, but the schedule is just nowhere near as weighted toward division play as it's been in the past. This could easily benefit the Padres more than it benefits the dodders… they won't necessarily need to play such a big "catch up" game with the dodders when it comes to setting up their roster. Should make things interesting to say the least.
