Would guess that the coaches are trying their hardest to get the best player available . Aztecs have a very good base currently and if they get Nathan and another high quality player they could be quite good .
Aztecs with the Maui T and some decent other games could put the Aztecs in a better opportunity for even a decent seed in MM . Matt , Nathan , and others will be gone . Current Aztecs and Dutcher as HC have not won a MM game . Time to do it is this season .
The staff has been really trying to get some additional players but for most Non P6 schools it is not that easy to out recruit. The lure of the P6 is still very strong and to others maybe we may have too many experienced players and they may want more PT .
Will have to see if Dutcher can get Nathan and 1 more quality player
We also have the HS players that will need to get some experience when many of the guys leave after this season . But you do go for as a good of a team as you can this up coming season

Being from the NW, it's interesting following teams up there & watching all the chaos that's happening, and thinking how lucky we've been to have never lost an impact player to the portal (Z was pre-portal)! (I'm knocking wood)
WSU has lost 4 starters off a NIT Final 4 team, 3 to the portal including Roberts who we lost to them last year. UW lost their best player, and then lost a kid who they considered to be a "lock" today as well as Cotrell, who they considered to be their Plan B. Oregon lost a starter & 2 key backups, although they typically reload. OSU is a complete disaster & lost their entire starting backcourt to the portal.
It's carnage in the NW. Heck, even Gonzaga has all 5 starters testing the NBA waters with most hinting they're not coming back. And as we know, Seattle U lost their best player to a certain So-Cal team!

There is little doubt that the No Sit transfer rule has really changed things in college sports
Coaches have to start re recruiting all their current players - better really have great communication with them all through the season and then especially as the season comes to an end
While at the same time - recruit guys in the transfer portal and HS guys - plus keep an eye on JC's - but seems they are getting lost in the shuffle
NBA does not help with the late NBA evals
Very easy for coaches to get caught in the spin of the merry go round -
Toss in there for other losing coaches and that some recruits are most loyal to the coach who recruited them .
Crazy time for the coaches - where recruiting can be even more important then coaching
Then when things settle down they can work on their OOC
UNLV has done a great job reloading this Spring

Personally...I think that Dutch should use the last scholarship on a "project" kid with maybe 3 more years of eligibility left...it's already going to be hard to find enough playing time for the 9-10 guys on the bench...not including the incoming Freshmen: Bradley, AG, KJ, LeDee, Butler, Seiko, Trammel, CB-M, DJ, Nate We add another high-quality shooter that's 11 guys who are looking for playing time...why not look for that 7-foot lumbering project who could possibly develop...or at least be that 7-foot practice squad player that Nathan can learn to try not to foul Just one guy's opinion...not that Dutch is listening to me in any way (nor should he be) We already have DJ who's the center we're developing, and one of our top targets next year is a big (7'1) project. Recruit one now, in between the 2, & you're potentially pushing the others out the door. The good thing about AG is he's not going to demand minutes, and DJ won't play that many IMO. You also have to worry that AG could be out for prolonged periods at any time. While I don't think another shooter is necessarily a "must", given we have Seiko and a solid guard crew overall. But there's a reason we're looking to recruit over Butler & Seiko. We tried to get Roberts last year, on top of what we had. But we fell short & it's my understanding the coaches regretted not having one more. I doubt they let it happen again if they can't help it. Any word on today's Rudi Williams visit? @ BYU on 4/27 @ SDSU today

Rudi Williams > Jared Lucas. Rudi is similar to Lamont and that 45% 3PT% is useful.

Per News reports Rudi extended his visit at BYU for an extra day - he felt the coaches were very authentic . BYU is looking for a starting PG to replace their high scoring guard . Spent extra time with the coaches . He is looking for a team that will let him show his skills and possibly enable him to get to the Pros . This is going to be his last season so he also said he is looking at playing in MM and winning some games . Not sure if a former team mate at a JC he was at is on the BYU team or was also there for a visit . He also enjoyed their whole campus set up .
BYU felt pretty confident about his visit . although they are still getting visits from other players . They still have 3 open scholarships
Article also said he was going to SDSU Friday and make his mind up about a week to 10 days after the visit .
Did not see any article after he visited with SDSU .

Poster asked if there were any results from his visit to BYU
Most articles said he was visiting SDSU on Friday - I was not aware that he was staying for the weekend
Although we could offer a working trip to Hawaii in November if he is on the Aztecs roster

Sounds like the Williams visit went really well, but like with Lucas the big hurdle is available PT. We can tell them to bet on themselves and if they're good they'll get the minutes but some seek more certainty. We'll see. Trammell is doing his best to help recruit them.

I wonder if the possibility of combo guard Antoine Davis transferring to BYU, who avg 25 pts per game, helps or hurts the recruitment of Williams? They would form a great backcourt but Davis very ball dominant.

If they are recruiting Parrish, maybe that means they would be moving Bradley to SG and having Parrish, Baker and Johnson fight it out for the SF spot. Bradley's professional career is playing SG. Would also give us more height and a better rebounding team.

Parrish (Oakland transfer) 6'6 190 last year avg 12 pts 6 rbs (35% from 3) Horizon League all defensive team ... seems like exactly what we are looking for?

Luster left the banquet early to pick him up then they're meeting the staff for dinner. A little surprising in that he's not a polished shooter but still managed to shoot 36% from deep and more so a terrific defender. Seems like a CBM who can defend, but not quite the polished shooter?
The question is whether he's willing to accept fewer minutes this year knowing when Matt leaves he'll have more opportunities?
Word has Michigan St as the favorite.

Pretty impressive making All-Horizon Defensive team as a Freshman. But he's a Detroit native and Michigan State loves him. The school is only an hour from Oakland, which is in Detroit. He had 19 points and 8 rebounds against Michigan State last year. One of the Spartan's starting wings graduated and the other one declared for the NBA Draft but maintained his eligibility.
It might just depend on whether or not if he wants to get away from Detroit. Adding another defensive stud would be pretty incredible for our defense.
