So...is Gore starting on Friday against the Braves??? Won't know until after Snell's bullpen. He was playing catch today. Probably get a decision tomorrow.

He may well be needed, in more ways than we know right now …

Gore gets his first MLB start with the Padres tomorrow (Friday) vs the Braves. It’s weird, I’ve seen dozens of first starts for Padres pitchers, this one is easily the most anticipated.

Five shutout innings for the 23 year old. 1.74 ERA. Is it too soon to say that the Padres got this one right? (i.e. timing on bringing him up)

Love Gore, but let's see what he can do with tougher tests.

Five shutout innings for the 23 year old. Seemed like he had a bit of a problem at times with getting the feel of the breaking ball today, but he bobbed and weaved his way through 5 innings. It also didn't hurt that he was up against the Reds, who just aren't very good.

Mark of a good pitcher when you can get through without your best secondaries. 24 fastballs over 95.5 MPH today, flashed a good slider and a good curve with good separation in the velocity. I know Cincinnati isn't great offensively, but it's still a giant step forward for him developmentally to battle through circumstances like that.

Can't teach confidence … that's gotta be earned, and Gore earned some tonight. Huge step forward. The Padres are going to have a really tough decision to make pretty soon … especially if Gore keeps earning his stripes.

He's likely going down. Barring another injury of some sort or some unforseen circumstance.

Gore will probably stick around at least until they've got the Snell/Clevenger situation sorted out. The 5/1 deadline will hopefully pass him by. There are others who can take the shuttle on that date. And there seems to be no rush to get Snell or Clevenger back in the rotation right now. It's like Clevenger said - something to the effect that the less he pitches now, the more innings he'll have left at the end of the season since he'll definitely be on an innings limit this season.
I think it's overly high hopes that Snell and Clevenger can stay healthy throughout the entire season. If the Padres decide to take no chances for either or both and put them on short IL stints whenever they "feel something", that just means Gore will likely earn himself some decent frequent flyer miles from Southwest Airlines.

Clevinger has one start left in Triple-A and should rejoin the club after, barring any setback in his outing. And no, the team is not going to shuttle Gore back and forth.

Silver lining? At least the Padres are lined up to win a few against the AAAA competition they'll be facing on their upcoming road trip.

I'm sure someone here will have an opinion about how many innings/pitches Gore will get to throw this season. He's not going to make things easy for the Padres in terms of where he throws those pitches this year. He's already at 10K tonight, with little or no loss of velocity or control after 101 pitches. Hopefully the remainder of whatever number of pitches he gets to make will be in the majors this season.
Impressive isn't quite the most superlative word that might be used tonight. Always room for improvement, but there's very little to complain about in tonight's performance.
Yes, the Reds truly suck. But this was their second crack at Gore in a week, and it does not look like they learned a thing from their previous experiences with him. Of course, that lack of ability to learn could easily be the #1 reason the Reds will probably continue to suck this year. Still, they looked even worse against him tonight than they did in San Diego.

Lot of pitches for 5 innings. As Crash Davis would say, "...Strikeouts are boring. Besides that, they're Fascist. Throw some ground balls. They're more democratic...". But Gore is fun to watch.
