I'm assuming that fallout from the Byrd signing? No, he wasn't a target. A lot more "offers" are out there than actual scholarships available. How does that work? Are some kids told they have an offer, but conditional? |

Yes, or more it's "we'd like to offer you but we're waiting on X, Y or Z". Keep in mind scholarships are self reported. Some kids list offers which really aren't even offers. Often it's just "interest", especially when it's really early on in the recruiting phase, so the kid will list as an offer, which makes them look better to other schools who may actually offer. Other examples of "conditional" are those who reclassify (unless it's the elite guys obviously). For example, this Gueye kid who signed with WSU was "offered" by UCLA & Kansas, but as a '22 recruit. He reclassified to '21, where they either didn't have spots available to sign and/or were really waiting to see how well he played this year before making a formal offer. Another example of conditional relates to what Dutch said about the portal, which is as soon as someone enters the portal if they even have a remote interest in the kid they'll reach out to them & say they're interested in talking to him. RIGHT AWAY. Then, and only then will they do their homework on him, which may sour (or peak) their interest. For all we know that kid may say SDSU offered, mainly because there's no one to say they didn't! |
