At 6'7" he has length, athleticism and gaining more confidence with his shooting. Crawford is from Chula Vista and Eastlake HS, while playing AAU for San Diego's Coastal Slayers. Has recent offers from Alabama & TCU and has spoken to PAC 12 programs: Oregon, USC & Stanford. Crawford has talked with Aztec coaches, but nothing official yet. Crazy athleticism and bounce.
As a HS Sophomore, he had interest from MWC, Southern, Sun Belt, Patriot League, WCC, Big Sky, and Mid-American schools. Looks like he now has P5 offers. SDSU Aztecs?

He's very talented. Some referees I talked to last season said he was the best player they officiated all year.

1.Gonna share what I was told last week by the top local trainers here. One coach came to my private gym and I asked him why SDSU doesnt get any of our top players. He said that any SD player that has NBA potential wont go to SDSU because of how Winston, Malik, and Zylan werent developed. They acknowledge that SDSU has done GREAT with 2 and 3 star guys who are now playing overseas but Kawhi isn't enough to sway these kids' minds. So we NEED Malachi to be a star to erase doubts. Yes, we got Trey and Shrigley but they werent destined for NBA. A lot of local talent are training hard at the Hoop Warehouse. Some good stuff going on there.
2. AJ Burgin came to play at my gym. First time seeing him ever. Great kid. Had a good time messing around with his dad. AJ has a nice shot. His team was down 10 with 3 minutes left and he took over. My understanding is AJ is a 2 star player and the level of a Big West or Big Sky conference type. Wanted to share since I know some of you and myself were curious if SDSU was gonna offer. AJ is hard worker and I have no doubt he'll blow up like Matt Mitchell did his senior year.
3. Mikey Williams' people asked about using my gym for workouts but we declined. Would've been a great photo opp but also wouldve had way too many people in our gym. Too many cameras, etc. What I was told is that his game is more suited for NBA than college. Dont expect him to go college if one and done rule is abolished. I didn't even ask about sdsu's chances with him after what I was told in my first point.
4. I did reach out to Matt Mitchell and Schakel to use my gym if they had nowhere to train. They both said thanks and would let me know. I cleared it with Matt Soria first. I told the guys I would close off my gym so they could train privately. I hope they take me up on my offer.
5. Ive been learning a lot about local recruiting ever since these coaches find out about my gym and have gotten to know them. Ill share with you guys whatever Im allowed to tell you. Im excited to learn more. Oh ya, we were never top 2 with Boogie Ellis I heard. He was gonna go USC or Arizona. Then Duke called. Then of course Memphis.

Im excited to learn more. Oh ya, we were never top 2 with Boogie Ellis I heard. He was gonna go USC or Arizona. Then Duke called. Then of course Memphis. Interesting...Malik was certainly physically talented, but had a hard time staying healthy and there seemed to be an intangible missing. Winston was also physically gifted, and brought some things that guys his size don't usually. Such as, he was one of the best passers on every team he was on. But, his shot was not consistent. You can only coach a guy so much. Then it is up to him to put in the work. Zylan, I will admit that we may have dropped the ball a bit with him. But, I also think it was the way he was used, and likely would have been used if he had stayed at SDSU that prompted him to move on (that, and being closer to home). But, there is also the cases of Jamaal and Jalen. I saw Jamaal play as a freshman against Cal Poly and remember thinking, OMG, this guy is like Bambi in basketball sneakers! He was just all over the place. But, freakish athleticism. Somebody in our program coached him up to be a fringe NBA guy (for a short while anyway). And Jalen, while not as raw as Jamaal as a Freshmen, also developed into an NBA caliber talent under the SDSU staff. So, if that particular coach you talked to feels a particular way, I think there are answers to that objection. There is no question in my mind that Anselem made his decision based on going to what he considered a more storied program than SDSU. Big East and all that. Dutch and staff just need to keep doing what they are doing. Dutch was a finalist in National Coach of the Year awards, and what h e and staff did with the three transfers are putting us in top 5's of some of these top recruits. It can take awhile for perceptions to change, but I think it is starting to happen. Last year was an eye opener for a lot of people who follow college basketball and Dutch has a much higher level of respect than he did a year ago.

I totally buy you were told that but I don’t but that’s near the full story. There are many factors as to why we struggle to keep top level home but I’d say ultimately the conference we play in is the biggest factor

Yes, we got Trey and Shrigley but they werent destined for NBA. A lot of local talent are training hard at the Hoop Warehouse. Some good stuff going on there. Jalen McDaniels kind of debunks that theory. He was a 4-star recruit who wasn't seen as a NBA player who was developed by this staff & his own drive into an NBA talent. Zylan didn't develop any more at ASU than he did at SDSU - he was just older & had 2 years to do so, given the RS season. Mal's just another notch in our belt, but if a kid is an NBA talent it will be HIS work ethic & determination that will get him there, not playing at USC vs. SDSU, etc. As Fisherville said, some are initially in awe of playing in a P6 conference (see Anselem), and others simply want to get away from home. This coaching staff is about as good as they get. Dutch proved many years ago he knows what it takes to help develop talent.

Once SDSU starts pumping players into the NBA every year local top talent will come here. It's happening. This year Malachi Flynn will be drafted and next year Matt Mitchell will be drafted. Che Evans will go to the NBA and all the talent will start flowing into the Mesa.

I would concur Aztecs had a great season last year but were not able to see the results in MM that would have been needed to move them up closer to a P6 level - or close to a level that the Zags have earned . They have had numerous years playing in MM but it has not been until recently that they have been able to land very highly rated HS recruits .
Most of the very Highly rated local recruits still want to go to a P6 school . Same is probably the case for other highly rated recruits who live in a city that does not have a P6 school . Many guys still want to go to P6 schools . Our coaches sure try to land the highly rated local guys but is not that easy beating out the P6 schools.
Aztecs will need to continue to get into MM and win some games - similar to what the Zags have done . Also continue to get guys into the NBA .
