Took a look at this kids twitter account and at some of his footage. For being 7’4” he is not a stiff and in many ways Reminds me of Wetzell and not because he is white. 70% floor, only 43 minutes in 9 games, only one turnover which means he takes care of the ball, 1 of 2 from line, 15 points. Seems to have good feel around the basket. I think they were trying to redshirt him last year and the kid got passed Being the third option and could have other options with other schools. Previous 3 star recruit. I am pretty intrigued with this player and would try to be setting up visit as quickly as I can.

Yep, someone getting offers from Utah, Gonzaga, Baylor & Utah State out of HS is not a stiff. You have to take his stats with a grain of salt, given he wasn't playing against first strings at crunch time, but when on the floor he was extremely efficient. Technically led the team in rebounding % (offensive & defensive), block shot % (elite level at 19.5%) & rarely missed from the field. But again, small sample. Just in a bad situation, being a little more raw than Carlson or Thioune, who are both very good talents. In watching film I do like Morgan just a little more - he's more proven, but if the staff likes his footwork & upside, he could be a good add. The question is he doesn't fill a need for this season, which IMO depth inside is something we need? if they do the 1-time exception, then problem solved, but still not sure we've answered our question for THIS season.

agree First need to get Grad Transfer that can play this year - LMU center . Or ....
Also prefer Morgan from Long Beach but he may also have to sit a year unless they change the rules
Maybe see if there are guys from JC that can help but not sure there are that many quality guys available
would be helpful if Joel M . could develop into a guy that could contribute

It sure seems like we have a lot of good transfer options at the five position. Morgan seem like the type of kid SDSU tends to get as a transfer - solid 100-150 recruit, elite defender. Morgan profiles as very similar to Skylar Spencer, under the radar kid that is an elite shot blocker. The LMU kid seems to be the type that Gonzaga usually gets, physically dominant center that is good on both ends of the floor. Koman is interesting, maybe similar to an Angelo Chol - in that Chol got beat out for minutes at Arizona by blue chip prospects. Or maybe just a freshman who needs a redshirt year to grow into his 7' 4" frame. Like Dutch said about Nathan Mensah, our team would be better if Nathan could just stand near the basket with his arms stretched out - you can't teach 7' 4" height and length.
Does Joel Mensah transfer if we get one of these guys? Joel has a high shot block percentage statistically, but obviously hasn't put the rest of his game together (he looks lost on the floor sometimes). It would be nice if we could get one of these players, J Mensah transferred, thus opening up another scholarship for a grad transfer guard or power forward. On the other hand, if Joel could just figure out the rest of his game, he would be a solid backup player.

Final 4 consists of a Mormon, Catholic, and Jesuit University, and San Diego State. Let's hope Matt is an atheist.

Final 4 consists of a Mormon, Catholic, and Jesuit University, and San Diego State. Let's hope Matt is an atheist. When you started your post off, I was thinking you were setting up a joke. I would prefer to see the kid from LMU- MATTIAS MARKUSSON come in and play right away. He looks like a good fit to plug in and play the 5 for at least 10-15 minutes (maybe more). His game is more of a role then a star athlete needing to perform at a extremely high level every night. This team needs someone to alter shoots, try to control the paint, get some rebounds, dish out to the scores and not be a liability with the ball. This is what 7'3" 240 lb's can do and he also moves well with and without the ball. This team could have: 1) solid guard play (2-3 guys, please return Malachi) 2) couple nice wing's (Mitchell, Shackle & Arop) 3) a few stretch 4's (Nathan, KJ, Evans) 4) Big's (Joel and ) 5) 2 incoming freshmen guards (getting ready for Big minutes following year)* *replacing 2 guards and 2 wings, basically the entire back-court (much further down the road!)

I think the 2020-21 team needs a 5 - Grad Transfer - Hope Nathan is healthy and can play - but we never know
As mentioned - Joel has not developed as hoped - also not sure if he prefers to play the 4 rather then the 5
If we are looking at regular transfers would prefer Morgan from Long Beach

Markusson would be my first choice. Several prefer Morgan who is pencil thin and I can’t disagree wanting him but there is no guarantee we are even in his top 5 and I think he might be leaning else where. I would take Koman in a heart beat and Smile with a double win getting a big & beating out BYU.
As I said previously I would take both Markusson and Koman, go with the guards we have. I would put Markusson at the four and dominate teams inside along with Nathan . We would be set at the 5 position for next couple of years. We could hammer teams with the bigs. When was the last time we said that.

Two conflicting arguments: Attributed to Red Auerbach, you can't teach height; Mark Eaton.
Ute's coach, Larry Krystkowiak, was a power forward in the NBA for nine years, seems like he should have been able to bring out the strengths of big man.

as of today unless Malachi makes early decision - we only have 1 scholarship to give - or the coaches do as some do and have 14 scholarships with thoughts that Malachi leaves or someone decides to transfer from the current group .
Also means we go with the current group of guards - not add a transfer there ?
Think the need is for a quality guy that can help at the 5 position for the 2020-21 team
Dutcher and the staff know - what responses they have gotten from the transfer group - who has interest and who does not also - also from JC group
