From today's SDUT-3/19/2020 "...Morgan was the Big West defensive player of the year as a true freshman after shattering Long Beach State’s single-season blocks record with 80 (the old mark was 59), including eight in a game against Cal State Fullerton. He started 29 times, averaging 8.4 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in 26.4 minutes. (Think Skylar Spencer.) ESPN ranks him eighth among uncommitted sit-out transfers in the portal.
The SDSU connection? He played at Sheldon High outside Sacramento, the alma mater of Aztecs alums Dakarai Allen and D’Erryl Williams. There’s also the attraction of winning: Sheldon was a perennial contender for the state title, and Long Beach State went 11-21..."

hope we can connect with him before Coach Hut and Shelton do Yep, but as of now we only have two spots open and Morgan is a Freshman and would need to sit and redshirt. Grad Transfer may be the priority. Would love to have Morgan and Mensah the Twin Towers of Swat.

Folks need to stop thinking about the “sit a year” rule as it will be gone soon... there is no doubt it will be approved... Of the folks that are out there right now he should be a priority...

Originally, the NCAA was supposed to rule on this proposal in April. Not sure if that date is still happening. The coaches in both big sports are mostly against it. So it may get kicked down the road a year with everything else that's going on now. But I agree that it will eventually pass.

It is far from a given but there needs to be more transparency on timing of it. Would it be put into play next year or year after? And if next year they should not have waited so long to vote for it

So it may get kicked down the road a year with everything else that's going on now. But I agree that it will eventually pass. Not true. The P5's have come out in support of the rule (ACC, B1G, etc.), and even some G5/Mid-major conferences have also said they support the rule. It's already in place for most sports, and they realize it's not sustainable in its current format in the remaining big sports. If they can find time to vote, it's very likely to happen. There will be conditions around it, but it's happening.

If that passes then I think transferring within the conference would only require sitting out a year instead of two.

Latest update on Morgan, many suitors for the Big Man from CSULB, all the west coast power house teams are after him. Screw Shaka and the Muss Bus.

When the portal went into affect all two year sit rules were voided But unfortunately losing a year of eligibility hasn't been voided. Yet. Wish the MWC would change their rules to help encourage kids to stay in conference if they want to, like the P12 & others. We need to keep talent.

Do agree the 2020 -21 team needs a quality Grad Transfer at the 5 position - but if not adding J. Morgan as regular transfer would be great moving forward .
He has what many guys do not have wanting to play defense not just scoring .

This is the guy the Aztecs need to replace Wetzel. I hope he finds his way on to Montezuma Mesa.

If Flynn comes back, then I would really like to see us only get transfers that can play next year. If he doesn't come back, then I think that we would like a grad transfer guard to pair with a sit a year center like Morgan. Johnson and J Mensah can fill the gap as needed.

I think you worry about next years class and NOT the following year. This teams looks like it is pretty close to having almost the same type of team as last year. That is if Malachi comes back and Mensha is healthy. I like Morgan but not being able to play really hurts next years team at the 5 without an experienced player to work with and or against current team day in day out. Yanni really filled in well when Mensha went down and when they were both in this team really look good.
I think they need to worry about this coming years team because next year will have just as many if not more players in the Portal.
