Definitely acceptable to Strasburg, but the market IS overpaying. And what does Cole get now? 7 years? 8? More? And AAV--the same as Stras, but for more years? More $$? Higher AAV? A combination? However you look at it, Cole is about to become a VERY rich man.

Given Strasburg's age and medical history (10 year TJ surgery expiration date), 35 million AAV is a little on the high side. Most had him around 30. The Nats in typical fashion are deferring a large chunk of the money. Cole is going to get 8 years, minimum. He's 22 months younger than Strasburg with none of the durability issues. Expect him to get 8/300+.

Cole has been a top 3 pitcher in baseball the last few seasons and is still 29. A different animal, you could say.
