You must've mistaken me for another troll. I don't EVER say that. And not using moral victories. Just saying this schedule was WAY softer than 10 years ago. I contend it was the softest schedule in the Div 1 era. Change my mind. The schedule was soft this year compared to a lot of seasons. I don't have the data to make an assumption of the entire D1 era. What you also did was assume Chuck Long could win more games with a simple change of schedule. Convince me that this would happen Win more games than Rocky? Never said that. Would never happen. Said Chuck Long'd win more games against this year's schedule than the 2008 sked, from when the MWC was good. Change my mind.

News flash... San Diego State is a midget in a midget conference. Your argument dies when your line of logic is the shortest midget Disagree. San Diego State is not a midget in this conference. For this conference, we're not even short. We're like 6'. Nationally, we're like George Constanza height. So wait...you arguing we're both medicore & a MWC giant? Can you kindly pick one argument, please?

By the standards of the national landscape, we are puny. Not the smallest, but smaller than many. Put down the bong and try to focus.

It might allow you to finally think your way out of your faulty line of "logic." "By the standards of our puny conference, we are big..." That is written in the PRESENT TENSE. I didn't include ANY reference to Dan Hawkins, who left Boise in 2005. That was 15 years ago. During the Chuck Long era. My statement does not in any way refer to that distant past, nor include a phrase that would allude to 'circa Dan Hawkins era', like, for instance, "Historically speaking, we've been big..." I don't know if you're willfully obtuse or stoned to the bejesus, but every one of the things you've written is, essentially, a non-sequitur, an inexplicable leap of specious logic, going hither and thither, like electrons jumping the shell. Your arguments don't track logically. Hence the exhortation to put down the bong, sir.

That doesn't make him the best. Anyone who says that any coach other than Coryell is the best has no credibility whatsoever. You could make an argument that Rocky is a better coach than Gilbert, but I suspect you'd be in the minority on that one. But what Coryell did with this program was unprecedented. He took it from the garbage heap and turned it into an undefeated powerhouse in less than a decade. Rocky took over a winning program and maintained it. Just like Gilbert did until interference from the administration ruined the program. Funny how you correctly state what Don did for us while completely ignoring Rocky's contribution. A winning program? Dude, a single winning season with one bowl game since 1998 is NOT a "winning program." When blind people can read your bias from miles away, then you have zero credibility What bias? I love Rocky, but the program was already on the right course when he took over. Don Coryell took over a disaster. Claude Gilbert did what Rocky did - maintained a winning program. And, yeah, it was a winning program with a winning culture when Rocky took over. Hoke completely changed the mindset of the players who were already there and instilled a winning mindset for the younger players that came in to the program in 2009 or 2010. That doesn't make Rocky's accomplishments any less important. But Claude Gilbert was a fantastic head coach and shouldn't be dismissed just because there weren't enough Bowl games back in the 70's for the Aztecs to get invited to one.

LMAO @ Aztec Panther "thinking" winning 9 games is easy. If it's so easy, then how come hardly anybody in the 100 year history of the game did it nearly a decade straight? Hell, how come most teams don't win 9 in a single season? Who said it was easy? Are you living up to your username??? You're harassing people based on odd logic.

We get what we pay for.....Rocky's not making 3 million per season so why should we expect anything more than 8-9 wins and a third place trophy bowl game....this is how I interpret his attitude...... 2 MWC titles in 5 years with us in the mix for the title game up until the last conf game in 3 of those seasons Some of you have become very spoiled and entitled fans Also, 3 of those seasons saw double digit wins. Name the programs nationally with a better 5 year record than us My expectations for our sports town are higher than yours....we're the 8th most populous city in the 3rd most populous country in the world and our football program is never in the national conversation for a National Championship... I believe Rocky's an outstanding defensive coordinator and example for young men....If he cannot take this program to the next level than I'm in favor of finding someone who can....

It was really refreshing that we took a few deep shots against BYU, even if they didn't pan out (they did though). After that last game I'm a little more confident in Horton to call some more aggressive plays in the future if he's still around. I think Chapman and Agnew's arm strength was a major limitation in throwing deep posts and fly routes. Baker has a very noticeable difference in the amount of zip he puts on throws and was very accurate on those two bombs he threw (plus the post at the end of the half for the TD).
We definitely need to change things on offense but I'm not going to be as upset as I thought I'd be if Horton is back after seeing that game against BYU. Baker looked good. If it were my choice I'd still rather not have Horton back though

We know Agnew will start because Rocky has said as much, but will he perhaps allow Baker to play the second half? If Baker does play in the second half, will Horton's play calling differ from the first half? For that matter, will Horton surprise our opponent, to say nothing of Aztec Nation, by doing something truly innovative and thereby alter the season-long strategy of seemingly hoping to bore our opposition's defense into submission? By way of explanation, I don't advocate anything wild as I understand the emphasis on winning the turnover battle. I simply hope to see our offense put pressure on an opposing defense for once by installing a few new wrinkles, something the practice time before the game should facilitate.

I've gone to most of the bowl games recently but after the Hawaii game I was so pissed off I had zero interest in going to the bowl game since I also thought we'd lose to BYU. And even if we had managed to narrowly beat BYU, it wouldn't generate my interest. However, after how Baker looked and the slightly more aggressive play calling on a select amount of plays, I'm considering making the effort to go if we get the Cheez-It bowl. I'm not going to New Mexico or the Frisco bowl though. I'm just also scared at how pissed I'll be if I make the effort to go, only to watch us run Washington up the middle for 1 yard gains 15+ times and 90% of first downs

Despite 4 or 5 exciting throws by Baker, the offense still struggled. We still only scored 13 points. That's not good.
It was a good win, but we still couldn't run and we couldn't move the ball consistently or score much. The offense is still problematic under Horton.

As per Rocky: OOC doesn't really matter as it is "preseason" What matters is winning conference championships.
So we go 5-3 in conference with no conference championship, a very good defense and a bad offense. This is meh to me.
And he is confused that fans are not satisfied.

Rocky may have the most wins, but that doesn't make him the winningest head coach in the D1 era. It just means he's been very successful over more years than Coryell or Gilbert as our D1 head coach. He's still 3rd in winning percentage. Coryell, during his tenure while we were D1 was 36-8 for a winning percentage of 81.818%. And that includes the 6-5 season caused by the student council eliminating early registration* for athletes resulting in a disastrous recruiting year. Gilbert was 62-27 for a winning percentage of 69.662%. Rocky is currently 80-38 for a winning percentage of 67.796%.
* For our younger members who attended SDSU, registration back in those days was a near unbearable ordeal. There was no online registration. You went to the library at your assigned time and stood in separate lines for each class you wanted to sign up for. If that class was full you had to modify your schedule and get in line for another class, if one was available. Everything was done in person and by hand. Seniors got earlier registration times down to the Freshmen who went last. Football players, because of required practice times, had even more restrictions on when they could take any particular class. Pre-regrestration was a must for them to have any chance of getting all the classes they needed for the semester.

We missed the MWC Championship Game last year and Rocky noted the issues with the offense and made changes. This year, we missed the MWC Championship again, so I expect that Rocky will be making some changes this next year too. I'm expecting that Rocky will be staying with a conservative ball control strategy for as long as he is a coach. And for his tenure with Rocky, I assume Coach Horton has generally done as he was told. So, for next year, I don't know if there is an OC change in the cards but I would guess they would be working on some formations/plays/reads that would hope to yield higher completion percentages in the short passing game.

Gaining some more knowledge about NCAA sports will help you with bringing your expectations back down to earth. Also, city size and location (Attraction) has very little to do with how the program does. If that was case, nearly all of the Big10 and SEC would be some of the worst programs the NCAA has ever seen.

Didn’t they change formations after last year ended? They changed to the “spread formation” for this year....how did that work out?
