I have no problem with Hoke going to Minnesota if we can't match what they are offering. That's just the way it goes. The problem I have is that Hoke took a meeting with another schools during the week of they last game in the regular season. He couldn't wait until after the UNLV game? I guess he is so confident that we will be UNLV that he could worry about Minnesota this week instead. There was probably a deadline to have the meeting issued by Minnesota. Probably on the basis of "we need to get the process going now" edict from the AD at Minny. So, Hoke probably had to partake of the meeting in that manner or pass. That's a tough position to be in. Good point! As for leaving before Ball State's bowl game, that, too, is understandable. A new head coach must get going right away at his new school in order to get the assistants he wants, familiarize himself with the school's facilities, meet the administrative personnel, find a place to live, etc. As has been said many times, that's the reality of big time college sports coaching. What has pissed me off is when a school fires a coach and won't let him finish the season. Seems like a really classless and unnecessary poke in the eye. AzWm PS: I forgot to include recruiting among the things a coach must take care of at his new school. No time to waste to get that done.

If they wanted to talk and Hoke refused, I'd think there was something wrong with him. He should talk and leverage that into a new contract - that is the way things are done.

Good point. We don't know how to act. The idea that someone would leave us drives us nuts. We are so used to kicking people out that when the tables are turned we can't deal with it. Definitely. And here's another thing: we are so used to hiring and living with crappy coaches that when we finally have a good one that is wooed by other schools, we freak out at the prospect of him leaving because we automatically assume there aren't any other good ones to replace him with. And based on our track record, who can blame us for having that phobia?

We are only use to our coaches getting fired not getting snatched away. The only SDSU coach I can remember getting hired away was Beth Burn to Ohio State everyone else got fired. . LOL, you said snatch. The reason Hoke left Ball state was because the university would not put more money into the program, for the kids, for his staff and for facilities. I think the school has shown to be willing to put up the money for whatever he wants.
